We had the good fortune of connecting with Jroach and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jroach, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are such a huge part in success, if you’re not taking risks your going to be stagnate in anything you do. Im a huge risk taker and the way i think about risks is, its a personal investment. So obviously im not into taking “stupid” risks that require me to risk my life or health. But the biggest risk i took for example was moving to LA from Virginia after college to pursue my modeling and music career. If i never took the risk of; being poor, not knowing how i was going to come up with ends meat, trying to learn the ins and outs of an extremely difficult industry to crack, I would’ve never gotten to a this point in my career . So taking risks has played a huge part in my career. Even right now as im in NYC for the summer modeling, its a risk for me to be here. There is no garantee that ill make anything of it but ill always know that i tried and 10/10 that all you have to do is try. regret is my motivation
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im a full-time model and an artist and i feel like what separates me from others is how much that i actually do on my own. I got my foot in this modeling industry, I do youtube vlogs and Music production tutorials. who does youtube tutorials. I shoot, edit all my music videos and youtube videos. I mix and master, produce and record my own music. I market through email and facebook marketing myself. so i feel like i am just so knowladgeable of alot of different outlets within this creative space, it puts me ahead of the competiton becasue i can uderstand different/more topics than most.
I got to where I am by really taking the risk of moving from VA to LA and just hitting the ground running. It was forsure difficult to get consistent in modeling. I was running around LA shooting with different phototgrapheres, ubering to make ends meat, sleeping on my own couch cuz i couldnt afford a bed. and also modeling doesnt pay you for 60-90 days so thats a struggle within itself. i overcame these struggles by really keeping my family close and keeping my circle tight. Everybody around me belivevd in me even in the times where i wanted to quit. thats why its so important to have that close knit circle.
ive forsure learned alot of leasons along the way and i think one of the biggest lessons is nobdody is going to work for you harder than youre going to work for you. i say this because alot of times i caught myself relying on someones assistance to get where im trying to go and sometimes people dont fall through or its just not what you were expecting. so really for me its about hitting up artist, and photographers myself to connect and get work in. instead of waiting for my manager or agent to do something.
I want people to know that im really out here trying to inspire and motivate others to do what makes them happy. theres no need to settle for that job you hate, find a passion (which takes time) and pursue it. I would rather make 60k doing what i love than 130k hating my life and since you love what your doing that 60k is going to turn into 500k, if you want. so im just trying to lead by example.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Im forsure taking them on a ride through the hollywood hills all the way down to beverly hills to see the houses and cars (so motivating for me).
then were going to hit “Mama Shelter” rooftop for a happy hour
go to “The Continental Club” in downtown LA for a vibe at night
Ill also recommend “lock and key”, or drinks too
Brunch vibes well go to ” Ep & LP” for mimosas and food
Then probably end the week going to malibu to chill on the beach
But other than that i just like to chill shop around the city
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For sure my entire family deserves a shoutout My mom, dad, younger sister, and younger brother. They have always been supportive of my goals whether it was to play sports in college or leave college and pursue modeling and music in LA, Ive alwyas been able to lean on them. especially my brother and my sister Chloe Roach. We are on three way facetime 90% of the day (no joke haha) and just having an open space to be heard and get advice from is special.
