We had the good fortune of connecting with Jozzette Walker Sanders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jozzette, what inspires you?
I use to be ashamed of my past but the fact of the matter is this is me, I wouldn’t change a thing. Growing up poor is not an excuse to stay poor, being denied opportunities is not a reason not to grow. I will not place the blame, but I will take accountability. Moral of the story is, don’t allow your past to become your present, I am not a product of my environment my environment is a product of me. I use my platforms to mentor, I create dishes to bring families together and I tell my story so that other’s know they are not alone. When the question is asked what inspires me, it’s knowing I have the ability to uplift others, build bonds, rewrite the narrative that was prewritten; most importantly it is building a solid foundation for my children for generations to come. The question isn’t what inspires me, but who can, I inspire.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I currently work for the state as my 9-5, proudest of my family, I am a mother of 10, grandmother of one and run 3 business. I have a catering and meal prep business (listed on Door Dash and Uber eats) I am social media influencer and I also provide life skills and mentoring for youth and teens. The road to building my businesses has not been easy and took a harder hit during COVID. I am still overcoming challenges (Financial and building my customer base) but the journey has made me stronger and more driven than ever. I have learned many lessons a long the way, every day is a new page of the book of life. Most important lessons I’ve learned are have a plan for the plan, it’s okay to detour or reroute, giving up is never an option, and always have a rainy day fund (Invest, Invest, Invest). What, I want the world to know about my brand is that we are not just in business to make money, our mission is building bonds one customer at a time and we are committed to uplifting other small businesses along the way,
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This questions is a little hard, I have only lived in Ga about 6 years and rarely go out. Day one we would just relax, I’d cook their favorite dish and we’d enjoy each other’s company,
Day two, we would drive downtown starting at the Ferris wheel and walk and explore what downtown has to offer (Eat at Sweet Georgia Juke Joint).
Day three we would take a drive out to Cascade Spring Trail and enjoy the beauty of nature. Hike the path and take plenty pictures by the waterfall. We would rent a room nearby and find a nice restaurant to try (I do food reviews)
Day four we would drive back to my side of town and check out the Martin Luther King Center and The botanical Gardens (this would be a day of learning and growth) We would eat at the local taco stand by there, they have amazing tacos.
Day Five would be spent at Ponce City market, there is so much to explore. We would eat at Bar Vegan
Day Six & Seven would be the day we stay home, play family games. These last two days we would do a taste of places. This is when we each write places down of food we would like to eat and cook a dish or two from each place.
I am not big on going out, my family & I do more things together that are relationship building and cost effective.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is dedicated to my husband , children & gran daughter & support system.
