We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For me, having a creative space is everything. Being able to fully express myself through my work has always been so important to me…..

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the most exciting moments for me during my journey as an event curator would be forming a partnership with a local elementary school and creating an events club, the Bear PAWS (Programs And Wonderful Special events). I have had an amazing time working with my baby bears and instilling the importance of organization, detail and order in them. We gather and I let their creative juices flow on what type of parties they would like to plan and we make it happen. They all have a responsibility from creating the room layout to event execution. It has been a true joy to see the looks on their faces when the events they plan come to life. Seeing them have that spark of passion and exhilaration keeps me pumped and reminds me why I love doing what I do! I love bringing “Joy” to those who call on me whether for an intimate Sweet Sixteen brunch for the family or to honor our heroes while they are here with us and even after. Whenever I get the call, I am always proud and excited to deliver the best event experience possible. It is my true pleasure and passion in life.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If you know me, then you know I LOVE to put together an itinerary for family and friends coming to town to visit. These visits usually include a trip to the Atlanta BeltLine where we would stroll while checking out the art and fun people. We typically would end at one of two places to fill our tummies: Two Urban Licks or Superica. The Atlanta Botanical Garden always has something exciting to explore. It’s fun to grab a cocktail and saunter through those amazing floral displays. Cascade Nature Preserve is like a hidden gem, it is simply stunning. It offers amazing sights and great photo opportunities. The city is always bustling with new adventures, concerts and things to do. There is truly something for everyone here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send a MAJOR shoutout to my tribe of amazing mentors who surround me with love, encourage me to go for greater and inspire me to be better: Tonya Brathwaite, Chermaine Axam-Wilkins, Ashley Clay, Quian Huff + my mother, Cheryl Brown. Thank you so much for your leadership and guidance, you all mean the world to me!
