We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am a person that loves to travel. My family and I travel at least once a quarter. Over the years, I have either planned travel for myself or helped someone else plan their travels. I ran into an old acquaintance a couple of years ago who is in the travel business and told me how he became an agent. After talking for a while and I told him about all the trips I’ve been on, he recommended that I become an agent so that I could start getting paid for what I do for free. From there the idea of BoardingPass Plz was born. I use my platform to show the trips that I’ve been on, provide travel insights, and help people plan their own trips. The best part about what I do is that it is at no cost to the people that I work with. The cruise lines, airlines, and hotels pay me for bringing them business so it is a win-win situation for myself and the people I help.

What should our readers know about your business?
The thing that I am most proud of is the website that I have built. It allows me to convey my thoughts and information on a broader platform and at one time, I never thought about having a website. I am able to be in the position that I am in today through a lot of reading and learning from others in my position. There is an endless about of videos and documents that can help travel agents and it can help you launch your brand in the right direction. It has not been easy; most people do not know that there are a lot of fees and costs associated with becoming a travel agent and if you have a hard time generating business, it can defeat you mentally. However, I had a plan laid at which I knew would take some sacrifice but it has been worth it in the end. The biggest lesson that I learned is based on a quote from the Dalai Lama. It says, “There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called Yesterday and the other is called Tomorrow. Today is the right day to Love, Believe, Do, and mostly Live.” From this, I learned that I cannot focus on the clients that I didn’t get the day before or over-exert myself trying to get clients the next day, but to take the time to enjoy each day and focus on the things and the clients that I currently have.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would incorporate a variety of activities for him. I know he is a big hiking enthusiast so for that week, I would plan for 3 or 4 of those days to include some type of hiking to start off the day. We would try to find some off the beaten path speakeasy bars to visit. We are both fans of alcohol and the history behind it. We like to talk to these mixologists as they are often referred to as and taste drinks that they have created. We would also visit restaurants that were known for particular dishes. Like we would go to Baltimore for crab cakes and down to D.C. for oysters. We would also visit all of the different Washington monuments and museums.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, it would have to be my wife. She pushes me to provide more content and share what I know. She has her own business, Savvy Branding & Consulting, and her knowledge of social media and websites has helped me provide the content that I have in a way that will reach more people.
