We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Daily and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I’m very obsessive when I take on a project. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and very detail oriented. When I’m working on a sculpture it’s not done until I’m happy with it. My art is a full-time job and the hours I put in reflect that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make recycled metal sculptures. I use 95% recycled materials. What sets my art apart from other metal art is the personality I put into my pieces and my attention to detail. Recently I’ve really been focusing on motion and try to make my pieces look as if they froze that way.

Throughout my life I’ve battled depression, but making art is my medication. There is no better feeling than completing a piece and realizing I made it! Sometimes I even wonder how?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting I would definitely take them to Rose City Coffee for their morning jolt of caffeine. The hiking Trail of Ten Waterfalls at Silver falls state park would definitely be a must! We’d definitely hit up Fire on the Mountain chicken wings and of course I would take them up to Alberta Street. I sell art at Alberta Street Gallery with 33 of the best artists Portland has to offer!. If they were here over the weekend Portland Saturday market is a must see. Over 200 artists selling their own handmade goods! Obviously we would drive through the gorge, and visit many of the different amazing neighborhoods Portland has to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Lisa deserves the shoutout. I definitely don’t acknowledge all her help and support enough. I could not have gotten where I am today without her.
