We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Cozy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The basis of creating and branding myself into Josh Cozy. The artist, visual storyteller and writer.. it all came from a sincerity of being myself. Getting my thoughts, ideas and feelings across creatively. I never thought of it being this, who I am today or where I am. I was just being myself and people really begin leaning into what I was doing. Explaining how it helped them and moved them to feel/process what they were going through.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an artist, photographer and visual Storyteller. What got me here was openly expressing emotions. True vulnerability, being able to put myself out there for others to tune in. The biggest challenge has been self doubt in this journey. I think it’s natural for us all, just on the basis of life. It’s up and downs. We constantly go through so much, sit in our own heads. Navigating life knowing better does come has literally been my motivating factor. Understanding I can be something. Even in putting all my emotions out there. Learning who to trust, how to trust and beginning to know what’s at best interest. I just want people to know you can be your authentic self and make it in this world. No sense in chasing who we aren’t.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Favorite spots.

WHINO – Super smooth bar and lounge in the Arlington, mad dope spot with a lot of art.

PALETTE 22. – All you can eat small plates. This joint super fire lol. For $35 only and you get super low drinks with it.

GUAPOS – Real hip authentic Mexican joint. Guacamole is ELITE.

SUPERETTES – Hipster style little bar and food. Think it originated in San Fran. Best blackened chicken sandwich around.

SAN ANTONIO BAR & GRILL – My comfort spot, I go here after the movies and grab the margaritas. They go for the low!

12 STORIES. – The best spot/bar in DC. In my opinion. Food is superb but the DJ & drinks take it to another level. You get to stand outside and enjoy the waterfront. 12 stories up, literally.

MONUMENTS/NATIONAL MALL are a must just for the vibes of coming to DC.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutouts go towards my son and family. It’s always been very close knitted. We never had much but it’s always been the most to me. I really appreciate all the sacrifices issued in order for me to be where I am. I want to give thanks to my creative collective: Black Smilez. We’re a group based out a few states of all different creative medians, we support each other and do for another on the creative side. Taking networking across to another level.
