We had the good fortune of connecting with Joselyn Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joselyn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve never been afraid of taking a risk. I always encourage people to go for it. I moved out of Puerto Rico to the United States all by myself pursuing my life purpose. I only had $250 to my name! I thought if I would’ve let fear take over I wouldn’t be where I am today! I landed a job 2 weeks from touching down in the states! It all a mindset, in life we gotta be able to take risks!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Josie and I am a barber! I have a passion for serving & helping people! I’ve always believe that a good haircut can brighten someones day! Whether is a just because, a special event, a job interview, or simply a cheer up! To be able to express my creativity through hair and my passion for serving through providing excellent customer service is what gets me more excited on every work day! Before barbering I was working other jobs that somewhat made me feel like I had a ceiling on my income and I’ve always wanted to have control of how much or how little to work! I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, and switching from being on payroll to learning how to manage my own business was definitely a challenge. So I had to resource to books, and network with likeminded individual to learn more about on owning a business and keeping it. This journey has thought me a lot of patience. There can be days were business is up and booming and other times where its slow. But its very important to always keep the faith and continue to work hard! I want to world to see me a see hope, if I could do it travel across the sea and accomplish my goals they can do it too if they just believe in their self. Their talents will make room for them! Never give up and stay strong!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the Plant Based pizzeria in ATL. I absolutely love that place! I love hanging out at the belt line during the afternoon when I am there! And I enjoy either a gym of outdoor workout! So most likely that’s what we would be doing!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank God first and foremost without Him nothing would’ve been possible!
