We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me happy is the process of creating, whether it be taking photos or retouching. For me the act of creating is soothing, all my energy is focused on that task just bringing my vision to life. The noise of the outside world just seems to become quiet and time seems to slow down for me. Indeed nothing else matters when I am in a creative mode. In those moments I experience a calm happiness and those times cannot be taken away from me. The day to day rat race of life as an adult just comes to a screeching halt and I can just live in my purpose as a joyful artist.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is JLaw Inspired Images. It is a photography service business based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. What sets me apart from others is the experience I strive to create for my clients a joyful, exciting and memorable one. I go above and beyond to assist clients and models in achieving their goals with quality photos and videos which can drive their brands to the next level.

In order to get where I am today business-wise it took a great degree of sacrifice. I had to change my perspective on everything, my relationship with finances, people, and especially networking.

Some of the lessons I learned along the way are being dedicated to my purpose as a photographer and not losing focus of my goals. Building a business from scratch is by no means an easy task. It takes a massive amount of perseverance and understanding the wants and needs of your audience. It is not a path for everyone and there will be times where you want to give up and throw in the towel, other times it feels like your on top of the world with constant bookings and money flowing into your account. Its all about taking the good with the bad and staying true to what your goals are a business owner.

What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that I pour a lot of blood, sweat and tears into my business to create an experience that my audience truly enjoys and finds inspiration in. When my clients work with me they are highly valued and their satisfaction is my number one priority.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely recommend Bar One to enjoy the the night life, which gives you gorgeous scenery on a marina where you may even run into a celebrity or two, you get a view of Miami Beach and they also play great music. We would do a speed boat tour on the inter coastal, you get to go around the different islands such as Star Island and Fisher mans Island where you can see the gorgeous mansions. You also don’t have to go all the way Martha’s Vineyard to enjoy wine. In Homestead, Florida we have a winery called Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery which offers an awesome wine tasting experience that is quite memorable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first would like to dedicate my shoutout to Sophie Toussaint, she has been a great friend a strong supporter of me and my business. She has always recommended me to people she knows and raves about my skills. She really has helped me with my confidence in terms of putting my work out there.

I woul also like to thank Teirah “Tee” Hicks, she constantly helps me to come up with new ideas and always reminds me of my worth and to always put a price on what I create because of how hard I work.

Finally, I would like to shoutout Shanice Bynes, she a great collaborator and client. I enjoy being a part of her brand by taking photos for her and she fills me with alot of inspiration in how to best capture femininty and telling the stories of women in business and growth.
