We had the good fortune of connecting with Jose Davilus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jose, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting Kids In Motion Academy in 2017 was truly a passion that was placed in my heart. I’ve always loved working with children, and I now realize that the time I spent working with children at church and even my teenage jobs at a kids’ gym were quietly carving my path without me knowing it. Those experiences planted seeds that later blossomed into the vision God entrusted me with to create a place where children could be nurtured, educated, and loved, while giving families peace of mind.

I stepped away from a job I thought I would be at for a long time. What felt like an ending was really God’s way of preparing me for a new beginning. With the unwavering belief and support of my husband and family, I knew it was time to step out in faith and bring that vision to life. Kids In Motion Academy was birthed out of that season, created to be more than just a childcare center. It’s is a place of purpose, growth, and impact for today and the future.

Launching my own business has not only allowed me to live out my calling, but also to create jobs for others, build financial freedom, and empower my children to see that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. Kids In Motion Academy stands today as a testimony of faith, perseverance, and God’s plan in action.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kids In Motion Academy is more than just a childcare center it’s part of a ministry, a vision, and a community. What sets us apart is not just our curriculum or our programs, but the heart behind what we do. I am of First Generation Haitian American, and I grew up watching my parents work hard and sacrifice daily. Becoming an entrepreneur was never a question in my mind, but the reality of starting a business was not easy we didn’t come from wealth, so every step was built on faith, prayer, and perseverance.

God opened doors for me each step of the way, and I learned that keeping Him first in my business is the foundation for everything. No matter the challenges or obstacles, He always made a way. Over the years, I’ve faced many hurdles from financial struggles to learning how to grow and manage multiple centers, but I am proud to say that Kids In Motion Academy is thriving, serving hundreds of families across Atlanta.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success isn’t about what you have, but about the impact you make. At KIMA, we believe every child deserves access to quality education and care, no matter the economic status of their family. That’s why we work hard to create opportunities for all children to learn, grow, and thrive.

I am most proud that this business has given me the chance not only to provide jobs and empower other women but also to inspire my own children to know they can do anything if they put their minds to it. My husband has been my biggest supporter and partner in this journey his encouragement and belief in me have been priceless.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is simple: KIMA was built on faith, love, and purpose. We are not just raising children; we are building leaders, supporting families, and showing our community what’s possible when you keep God first and never give up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kids in Motion Academy would not be here if it wasn’t for the unwavering love and support of my husband Mark. He believed in me before I fully believed in myself. He invested his time, his energy, and his heart into this vision. Even in the moments when I wanted to walk away, he reminded me of my purpose and pushed me to keep going. He has truly been my rock, my encourager, and my partner not just in business, but in life.

Once I shared my dream with my parents, they immediately stepped in with their support both inside and outside of the classroom. I’ve also been blessed with incredible family and friends who have stood beside me, as well as my pastors and church family who have poured into me like their own. My siblings have been by my side each step of the way, cheering me on and lending a hand whenever needed.

And of course, the real rockstars who keep our doors open every single day our amazing admin team and employees. They have become like family, showing up with dedication and passion to make sure Kids in Motion continues to thrive and serve our community.
