We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordyn Mayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business is about more than just building something from the ground up—it’s about creating my own seat at the table instead of waiting for an invite. The time to start shaping the life I want is now, and I know that the road to success isn’t a one-size-fits-all journey. My path may be different, and that’s okay, because there’s a reason for everything. My calling might just be bigger and more extraordinary than I ever imagined. The idea of being my own boss is so intriguing because, let’s face it, most people have a boss. But there’s something truly powerful in taking a thought, a spark of an idea, and turning it into something real that not only fulfills me but also has a positive impact on others. It forces me to think bigger, push boundaries, and trust that even my wildest dreams are small compared to what God has planned for me. So, I’m patient, I’m listening for the signs, and following the steps. I know that when I do, the results will be beyond what I can even picture right now.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
WAFFLE . is a magazine that brings a fresh perspective on contemporary culture, lifestyle, and creativity. Founded in 2024, our mission is to offer a unique blend of insightful articles, compelling stories, and thought-provoking ideas that resonate with our readers – on top of just overall fun and engaging content. We are constantly being thrown news and stories and we need to hold space in order to celebrate the fun ones, flush out the negative, and tell the people the meaningful things that are going on in the world around them. We are dedicated to creating a space where people can explore diverse topics, from cutting-edge trends and personal growth to innovative art and emerging technologies. Whether you’re passionate about fashion or seeking inspiration, WAFFLE . is your go-to source for engaging and thoughtful content.

What sets us apart is our commitment to telling stories from unique perspectives and giving voice to individuals and communities that are often overlooked. We believe there are so many interesting people and ideas out there, and we want to celebrate them. Our content isn’t just about keeping up with trends; it’s about fostering meaningful conversations that inspire exploration and change.

The journey to where I am today has not been easy. Like many creative endeavors, it has been filled with challenges—moments of doubt, learning curves, and the constant need to evolve. But what kept me going was a passion for storytelling and a desire to create something that could truly make an impact. The obstacles were part of the process, and overcoming them involved staying true to the vision, being adaptable, and having the courage to take risks when I had to.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t cheat the process. It takes persistence, patience, and being open to feedback and growth. Along the way, I’ve also learned the importance of community—surrounding ourselves with like-minded individuals who support and challenge me, as well as being grateful for the ones who believe in the work, even when it’s in its early stages.

At the end of the day, we want the world to know that WAFFLE . is not just a magazine, it’s a movement. A movement that’s about sparking curiosity, celebrating individuality, and amplifying voices that need to be heard. We’re here to create a platform for stories that matter, and we’re excited for what’s to come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, we’d have the best time. We’d start our first day slow with a morning yoga session at the Yoga Studio Atlanta, grounding ourselves for the week ahead. Afterward, perhaps grab a smoothie bowl from Arden’s Garden! Their selection of healthy eats is so good. Then we’d have a chill afternoon with a little shopping spree—Perimeter and Lenox are my faves. We’d end the day with a cozy night in and we’ll definitely order wings from JJ’s at some point too—because duh!

The next day, we’d start the day with Pilates at SolidCore to work off that food from the night before. There’s something about working out with your best friend that makes pushing yourself so much more fun. After we work up an appetite, we’d head out for sushi, preferably Sushiology or Thaicoon, or heck – let’s go to Dua for so pho! The evening will be about putting that ish on for a rooftop bar experience—sipping on cocktails, catching views, and just soaking in the vibes. We’ll find one with a DJ spinning, because, hey, we’re always up for a good vibe and maybe even a little impromptu dance session.

Midweek, we’d take a break to reconnect with nature. Put our feet on some grass.

When it comes to going out, we’re not going to the club, but we’re definitely going to party! Atlanta has an amazing underground party scene, and I follow some of the best local DJs. We’ll hit up a spot where the vibe is just right, dancing, meeting new people, and making memories. We’ll definitely keep it fun and casual, with no rush.

Let’s not forget that we will be napping. Who doesn’t love a good nap?!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, sister, supportive family, and my partner for always having my back. Their unwavering belief in me has been a constant source of strength. I’m also incredibly grateful for my support system outside of my immediate family—the ones who showed up even when my journey was just beginning. Special thanks to those who supported my crummy YouTube videos in 2023, and those who continue to show up and cheer me on today. This is truly only the beginning. To the people who saw potential in my work and decided to help, even when my resume had little to show. That kind of love and support doesn’t come around often, and it truly validates where I am on this journey. I also want to thank God for guiding me through it all. It’s His grace that keeps me moving forward with strength and vision. It’s the kind of support that empowers you to take risks, move forward without fear, and keep pushing. So, a big shoutout to my community, to God, and everyone who has always believed in me and continues to support me in this pursuit. You all are a huge part of this story.
