We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordy Nasa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordy, how do you think about risk?
I think risk is neccesary to surviving as an artist. I feel that at this point in my life it would be a bigger risk to not follow my dreams. Ever since I was little I have always had this “All or Nothing” attitiude which puts me in a lot of “risky” situations but thats where I am comfortable, I feel anxious when something is too easy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I am a Rap Artist and Fashion Stylist. When I tell people that, they are always shocked and confused in how someone could do two seperate creative things in two seperate industries. However, I always say the same thing, I say,” Fashion is who I am , but music is how communicate with the world around me. My creativity and ideas don’t just live in a particular facet of my expression, it is my expression. The fact that I have been able to do it successfully is what I am most proud of and what I am excited about for the future. It has not been easy and I have a lot more to learn about both but the direction I am heading in beautiful. One of the lessons that I have learned is to be clear and focused on what you want, with everything. Another thing is to be the person you want to be now and dont operate in the mind set of lack. You are the energy you put out, you are the vision you want to see.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first off I would take them to all my favorite fashion boutiques in Atlanta and show them all the lowkey spots with the dope local designers. Then I would take them to Hattie Bs because they have the best hot chicken sandwich in Georgia hands down. Finally, we would probably go to piedmont park then walk the beltline to walk off the hattie bs. Even Little five or East Atlanta too because I like movies so I am at the starlight A LOT.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for my team. These people are the reason why I am able to execute some of my insane ideas. Whether it’s Laila, who is an amazing girlfriend and cinematographer, Raeefeke, Tony, Joel who are my best friends that help me with everything, and my mentor Memsor that has helped me take my styling to the next level. All of these people are just as important as I am in my success.
