We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Victoria and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, why did you pursue a creative career?
Design and creativity are part of my DNA and my imagination was even more impressive. My parents were both entrepreneurs in real estate and construction the exposure I experienced in both industries was a big influence in me pursuing my creative interest in music and design. I drafted blueprints of a dine-in movie theater concept at the age of 12, and years to follow I signed a recording deal with Geffen Records as a recording artist.
My early career in the music industry allowed me to work alongside music mogul Jermaine Dupri {So So Def Recordings} and create an extensive list of contacts within the entertainment industry. Drawing from these relationships and my own entrepreneurial spirit, I established a luxury-event design brand while living in Los Angeles that provided event planning and concierge services exclusively to political clients, entertainers, and professional athletes.
After several years in event design, I transitioned to interior design, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture design. This allowed me to further hone my skills and expertise in the field. I later worked in Private Aviation Interior Design for Gulfstream Aerospace, which enabled me to further develop my luxury-lifestyle brand.
As a recording artist I learned the importance of presenting a visually appealing and cohesive image to an audience. She learned the value of creativity, execution, and attention to detail, all of which have proven to be useful in her current career as an interior architect designer. The parallels between the two careers are significant especially on having keen observation of space and how it will be perceived and experienced by others. As an interior architect designer, I use my skills in storytelling, expression, and presentation to create spaces that are not just beautiful but also functional and meaningful.
I continue to draw inspiration from experiences in the entertainment industry, incorporating a unique perspective into each design project. My ability to tell a compelling story, create a cohesive vision, and evoke emotion has made me a sought-after designer in the industry. My work is evidence of the power of being intentional and the importance of pursuing your passions.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I wouldn’t say my journey wasn’t an easy one there were definitely challenges and hurdles to overcome, but with persistence and believing that the path I was carving out for myself was the right direction for me at that time, and the difficult challenges made me challenge myself even more, each hurdle made me leap higher to achieve my professional goals.
When I decided to return to school in pursuit of my Bachelors Degree in Interior Architecture Design as a full-grown adult with adult financial obligations and responsibilities, I had to make a life-changing decision do I pursue the career change?, if so that would require me to step away from my Event Planning business and get a full-time job to cover my expenses. I knew it was not going to be an easy-task dedicating 100% to running my event business and giving 100% dedication to complete the design program something had to give, so I went back into the workforce knowing that it was going to be a big financial lifestyle change, but the outcome would be worth it.
I began working a job at a construction development company prior to my first quarter. When it was time to register classes for my 2nd Quarter I asked my supervisor if I could work around the Drafting class because it was a prerequisite class required to advance in the program, the supervisor initially agreed to my request. Months later when it was time to start the class, the supervisor tells me “I don’t recall to allowing you to work around your classes”. I was baffled because I recalled the conversation clearly word for word. I was committed to the classes because I signed up the previous quarter per his approval, what do I do now? One-week into the quarter, I requested to use my PTO on the day of the drafting class so I wouldn’t have to wait a full year for the class to be available again. That didn’t sit well with my supervisor and the following week I was terminated. I left the office and immediately drove to my campus to ask my department head if I could still join the class although I was 2 weeks behind…2 weeks of missing drafting class is like missing class for 3 months, There was so much to learn, catch-up and homework to submit. I didn’t question myself, I jumped in had many of sleepless nights to get caught up and ahead. I finished the class with an “A”…earned academic scholarships, graduated on-time, and six months after graduating I received the keys to my first office and launched Atelier Jordan. I often think about how my story would have a different ending if I would have made the decision to wait another year to take the drafting class extending my studies or withdrew from school because of the supervisor.
The lessons I learned along the way is that no one opinion matters when it comes to your destiny and journey but your own.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My bestie and I love having new experiences together she’s a food risk-taker unlike me, but I always take one for the team for the experience and company. One of my favorite restaurants that never disappoint is Eclipse Di Luna the food is yummy and always consistent, and they are best known for their Mojito’s {my fave cocktail}. The authentic Spain cuisine infused with the live Latin bands and guests salsa dancing is always a welcoming bonus. My bestie would jump right in letting her Columbian rhythm shine on the dance floor. We would make a few food stops during her visit to Culinary Dropout, Flower Child, The Select, Palo Santos, King + Duke, Rathbun’s and Nan Thai.
We would spend time in Alpharetta at Avalon and City Center, enjoy a nice stroll on the Alpha Loop, and maybe have a staycation and a spa day at The St. Regis, and tour Martin Luther King’s landmark home.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a BIG Shoutout to Jorge at Herrera Studio for recognizing my passion and work ethics in the interior design industry and listed me as a business-owner to be featured in Shoutout Atlanta.
My parents deserve all of the recognition for the success of my career and for instilling in me an entrepreneur spirit and encouragement to follow my creative dreams.
