We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Jarriel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I LOVE doing hair and spending quality time with my clients. It’s so important to connect with your clients on more than just a professional level but a friendship level as well. I think it’s crucial to understand what your client is going through and how you can make a difference in their lives. it’s so rewarding!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It was Christmas of 2002 and Santa brought me a Barbie tour bus and the Britney Spears doll in the red jumpsuit. In my eyes, this was the best Christmas yet! Little did I know how impactful this holiday would be. The more I played with the tour bus the more I would find myself putting Britney Spears backstage for hair and makeup. Eventually the entire tour bus was no longer being used for pop concerts and my 8 year old imagination turned the bus into a successful salon. I’d find myself playing the role of a hairdresser but not just any hairdresser, BRITNEY’S personal stylist (imaginatively lol). You could say I was the luckiest 2nd grader around. My imagination would soon impact the role I would take on as an adult. At 8 years old, I knew I wanted to be a hairstylist when I grow up.

This flame for doing hair and playing a beautiful role in peoples lives will never burn out. It’s more than just hair. It’s about impacting lives and empowering people to be the best version of themselves.

Getting where I am today wasn’t all barbies and butterflies. It took sweat and tears. The only way to get through challenging times is to just keep pushing and praying for strength. Most importantly, never be afraid to ask for help. Asking for help doesn’t make you weak, it makes you much stronger and smarter.

My favorite quote that gives me strength to keep going is “if God put you to it, He’ll get you through it.”

I want the world to know that doing hair as a profession is one of the most rewarding career paths one can take. Color and cutting is so fun! Do you know what’s more fun? Getting to witness someone’s confidence boost to high heavens after taming their mane. Whether you’re an average joe or a pop star like Britney, the feeling of confidence after getting your hair done is universal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A weekend in Toccoa, Georgia:

Friday: *hug your bestie* welcome to town! Kick off the weekend at Currahee Winery with live music. We’ll bring my dachshund and sip on muscadine wine. There’s a good chance that my favorite food truck Mike’s Subs is at the winery serving their famous cheeseburger sub.

Saturday: We’ll start the morning with kayaking and coffee from our local Currahee Station. For lunch we’ll swing by Brother John’s for the best chicken salad sub (hope you like subs!). End the night at Puerto Nuevo for some good mexican food and karaoke.

Sunday: Hope you packed your best slacks because we’re going to Carnes Creek Baptist Church with my grandparents. Pings at the Lake has the best fried catfish and tots for lunch. Enjoying the view is a plus too! By supper time, the aroma of my grandmother’s homemade cooking will send you to heaven. She’s got her baked spaghetti and garlic bread waiting for you. If your lucky, she’s made your plate with a tall glass of sweet tea.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To the one who lit the flame:

When I was a little girl, I remember wanting to be just like my hometown hairdresser, Lennia Colwell. She would highlight my mama with a cap bonnet and turn her into a million bucks! I knew there was something magical about transforming an individual through beauty.
Not only did Lennia leave a mark on her clients but she inspired me to do the same. She was my mentor and teacher through my high school cosmetology program.
Lennia taught me to find that passion and run with it. I do what I love full time and I educate cosmetology students every chance I can get. She’s my number one inspiration to this day.

To my husband, family, & in-laws:

Without the encouragement and support from my loved ones, I wouldn’t be standing where I am today. Y’all deserve nothing but the upmost respect and honor. Some of you were my guinea pigs in my student years and some of you were lucky enough to not be in that era (LOL). Thank God for sisters because those ladies ALWAYS had me working on their hair. On a more serious note, the love and support of my entire family has shown me is indescribable and it all comes from the heart. Love y’all bunches!

Thank you to my husband, Michael Jarriel for believing in my dreams and making my vision a reality. God knew exactly what He was doing when he painted you into my life. You’re my comfort on good and bad days. How you deal with me sometimes is beyond my understanding but you keep pushing me to follow my dreams. I love you for that and so much more.

Honorable mention:

To the ones who believed in me from the beginning, Ron and Shirley Barker AKA the best set of grandparents to walk this planet. These two legends are the ones that hung the moon and encourage me to reach for the stars. These walking angels are my rock. Love you two more than you’ll ever know.
