We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Countiss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risks are what get people where they ultimately want to be, in all aspects of life & career. Personally I have taken a lot of risks with traveling abroad alone, starting a business with no guidance and moving to a new state with no family. In starting a business there are many risks, especially when you have no idea where to start or what to do. While creating my natural skincare business called Imari Butters, I have learned so much about myself, business and really life in general. So far Imari Butters has been an unforgettable experience and I am so happy I took the risk! The saying there’s no reward without risk if very true, often times when we just take that leap of faith we are rewarded with things beyond our own imagination. I believe risk & fear can go hand and hand, on the other side of fear there are so many beautiful things. I spent a lot of my life living in fear and afraid to take risks, the moment I believed in myself and realized that I can create the life I desire I felt free.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a women of many talents from beauty, skincare to film production. I am still only in the beginning of my production career and entrepreneurial life, but in a year I have made a lot of progress. I graduated college in the middle of a pandemic on my sister’s living room couch, I laned my first long term gig in film and a few more after that, started an all-natural skincare business and released a commercial, and moved hundreds of miles away from my home to continue my career and grow my business. None of these things have been easy but I got through all of them and will continue to grow and flourish. I often don’t give myself credit for the things I have accomplished, but I am very proud of myself. I know what I want and I go for it, God has been blessing me and I wouldn’t be where I am without him. As far as projects, I am working on a few right now but I am really excited to be producing this web-series called Gen-Y, a production by A Delinquent Productions and khamdoArt. I am also looking forward to releasing some new skincare for Imari Butters so be on the lookout!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, there are so many! In the 3 months that I have been in Atlanta I have explored a large portion of this dope city. The food here is great, to name a few places; Desta Ethiopian Kitchen, Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, Bar Vegan, Slutty Vegan, Ponce City Market, Breakfast At Barneys and Kupcakerie. As far as places to hang or have fun there are actually too many to name, a few I have enjoyed are Eden Lounge, MJQ, any place in Edgewood, and definitely Rum Punch Brunch at Believe Music Hall. Some cute places to visit are the Botanical Gardens. Piedmont Park and Little Five Points.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My entire family, especially my sister and my parents. They have all been such a huge help and support from promoting, purchasing products and even down to labeling containers. I wouldn’t have even started Imari Butters without the encouragement from my sister Tyla, she has been the person behind many ideas and the reason why I keep going. I would also love to shoutout my Musa Majic TV family, this Baltimore based production company helped bring Imari Butters’ first commercial to life. They produced, filmed and directed the whole project!
