We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process was simple. I wanted to live out my childhood dream. Since the 3rd grade, I knew I wanted to be in the food industry. Once I got other reviews that my food was actually something that people would want, I had no choice but to turn my dream into a reality. All it took was some belief in myself and some prayer and I was good to go.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I genuinely feel that there are multiple art forms and food is one of them. From the process of prep to the final step of plating, food overall is a masterpiece that only a select few can conquer. Cooking is a gift and I’m always grateful that I was blessed to have this talent.
What sets me apart from others is that I don’t believe in cheat codes. I believe in the process and paying my dues in order to get where I need to be. I aim to be better each day than I was the day before and my results along with my personality will speak for that once you’re able to taste my food.
Professionally, I took a chance on myself during the last month of my undergraduate studies. I worker hard to network myself and get my name out there while also consistently pushing a product that everyone would love. Becoming known as “the ____ guy” was a step up for me and it made me want to go harder. JB’s Kitchen was started on a whim to originally be a side business and now it’s something I aim to do full time someday. It’s truly an amazing time in my life.
While I grow in craft, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to take my time. No matter how much you know of something, slow and steady always wins the race. You can’t rush perfection. While I don’t view myself as perfect, I try my absolute hardest to come as close to that as possible. This is what lets me know I will be great no matter what I do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’m a sports fan so that weekend my friend was visiting would be 100% based around that. Preferably around Falcons season despite our recent troubles. A few places I would like to go to food wise include: Milk & Honey, The Vortex, Big Dave’s or Mad Italian for their cheesesteaks, Delia’s Chicken Sausage, Yeah Burger, Ben Hill Grill, the list goes on bc with Atlanta its SO many places food wise.
Places just depend on the friend that comes. Especially nightlife. Dugan’s, CRU for sure are some of my favorite places. I absolutely love to sightsee, the Trap museum is one of my favorite places just because of my love of music, especially Atlanta’s presence in the industry. Museums have to be checked out, Ponce City Market would be a must.
I would make that trip overall a challenge to myself to view things I’m not familiar with in the city to extend my knowledge more since we are constantly growing. Parks line Piedmont and Centennial are must see as well. Atlanta is a beautiful city and I would want my visiting friend to explore all parts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to extend a shoutout to everyone who believed in me for who I am and not just what I brought in the table. Your belief in me allowed me to believe in myself more and I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without you all. Thank you for being my greatest motivation.
