We had the good fortune of connecting with Joni Dubriel Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joni, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Ever since college I’ve always worked in retail, particularly in the beauty and fashion space. I had a lot of success in the luxury retail industry which lead to an opportunity to work for an independent fashion blog. I worked behind the scene helping the blog build and operate an e-commerce site. When that job ended and I took a similar position with anther start-up, I began to ask myself, why do I keep working so hard to help someone else make money? I decided it was time to do this for myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always enjoyed mixing hi-lo pieces together to create my look. I can easily find something fabulous when shopping at Target or Neimans and receive just as many compliments. Being fashionable should never be about how much something costs or fancy labels. With that in mind, my vision for for Junk by Joni was to offer, ultra chic, high-fashion accessories at affordable prices. As a woman, I know all the different hats we wear—mom, boss, wife, entrepreneur, friend, daughter, the list goes on, so I know time is always of the essence. For that reason, I spend a lot time studying the runways and forecasting trends so I can make shopping easy and fun for the busiest fashionista. I alway want my clients to think of me as their personal accessories shopper. When you click the site you will always know I curated what is “ now” along with sprinkles of classic must-haves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

One of the coolest things to do in Atlanta is spend a day on the Beltline. We will walk the path leading to the Krog Street bridge and stop to shop at my favorite boutique, I Am Dani Jay. Then we would get a manicure and head over to the James Room for drinks followed my a yummy patio dinner at Rathbuns.

My appreciation for all things nature has expanded because of my boys. So I would have to take my bestie to the Georgia Aquarium. The huge tank with the whale sharks is super relaxing and fascinating to see in person. We would also visit the zoo and my boys would have to be our tour guides!

Finally when we are ready for a night of fancy cocktails and TikToks we would glam up, wear all of our Junk by Joni and hit up the Atl rooftop scene. My top three are Reverb, Bellyard and Clermont Lounge.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and children. I am thankful to my husband for encouraging me to bet on myself and pursue things that bring me personal happiness. He is a dentist and owner of Promendade Dental Care, so without question I have learned a lot from him about running a business. Even though our industries are completely different, I’ve witnessed that the grind and commitment has to be there. He definitely inspires me to keep pushing. My boys are so awesome, they help me shoot videos, take product pictures and they find cool moments to tell people about Junk by Joni. It makes me so happy to hear them say “hey my mom sells jewelry, her website is called Junk by Joni.”
