We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathon Penn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathon, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is service to others. When you genuinely and willingly serve others you will never lack. The old saying goes “give and you shall receive”. If that is true the more you give, whether with your time, resources, or money, you shall receive just as much or more. A true life lived is a life serving others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a creative and business man. I believe what sets me apart is my discipline to detail. This allows me to ensure I am providing the best service or product to anyone or organization I work with. One of the most recent accomplishments I am proud of is designing and fully reconstructing an Air Jordan 1 for the Shoe Surgeon Shoe School. My creation was voted on via social media and I won the contest. As a result, individuals were able to purchase my creation for a limited time on the Shoe Surgeon website. Everyone from athletes and celebrities to friends purchased my creation. It was such a wonderful feeling seeing people receive something you created from a thought in your head to a physical item and love it. I also recently created and sold an apparel capsule that sold out featuring an original design by me honoring Atlanta and Outkast. We plan to do a limited restock because the people really want it! I would say I got to where I am today through being authentic to who I am and serving others as best as I can. It hasn’t always been easy and to overcome some of the challenges I have faced I had to rely on family and friends for support as well as be strong in my faith and will to persevere. One lesson I have learned is the only consistent thing is change. You must be like water and learn to adapt to the ever-changing world you encounter. I would like the world to know my mission is to create inspiration and motivation for a healthy physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, and social existence. Through fearlessness and removing self-imposed limits that do not serve my mission, the seeds of my creations will bloom fully.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely have to hit up two of the best brunch spots Thumbs Up Diner (East Point) and Highland Bakery. We would also slide through Viva La Vegan and True Food Kitchen. For a little juice or smoothie we would go to Spreading the Health. And for something not so good for our waistline but good for our soul we would grab some cupcakes from Kupcakerie in East Point. During the day we would hit up some of my favorite boutiques including Wish ATL and A Ma Maniere. We would also visit Ponce City Market and maybe take a bike ride on the Beltline.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my wife. She has been one of my biggest cheerleaders on this journey and provided much needed support to achieve the success that has been achieved.
