We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonai Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonai, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
That’s easy. My repeat customers are the very reason I keep going. Plus I want the world to experience Caakies.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business started from the desire to do something nice for my employees. I started to bake for special occasions at work and my team loved them. Once my friend Shaunell had the opportunity to taste them and she immediately said I needed to start a business lol. I declined and said I was too busy with my career and really didn’t know where to start. After two years, I finally saw the light. and Caakies was born. I called Shaunell and said ok friend I’m ready. But can you help me? She replied with the recipe of running a successful business and the rest is history. It was not and still is not easy, considering I have a full time career in Corporate America and I’m also a photographer. Overcoming challenges are all about the mindset for me, I try to focus on the positives and the possibilities of what Caakies can become to keep me motivated and grounded. I want the world to know these are the best cookies you will ever eat!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my besties Ronnie and James were visiting we would definitely go to The Beverly for brunch on Saturday. I literally bring everyone there lol. That night we would hit New Orleans Daquiri for drinks and dinner. To hangout we would bar hop on Edgewood or hit Gold room. I’m not really a club person in Atlanta but I’m always out when my friends come in town. Everyone should visit Atlantic Station, Little Five, Edgewood, and Peters Street for a good time, I love those places.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most definitely! I would like to shoutout Adrian’s Bakery in New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s a black family owned and operated bakery and they gave me my first job! I won’t say how old I was lol but it introduced me to another profession, another passion, and a gift I didn’t know I had. Mrs. Marcia and Mr. Adrian are easily the reason I started to bake and decided to start my own cookie business.
