We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had been contributing to the bottom line profit for a lot of corporations, but still didn’t have time for me, my growing family, nor participated in the profit share. The stress and politics that goes along with being an executive was something I didn’t want to keep participating in. So I made the decision to take the skillsets I had learned to benefit my business.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am currently a Executive Vice President and Partner with KLS&A. I lead the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) practice for KLS&A and has built a very strong team of certified DE&I consulting strategists, organizational trainers, and a broad catalog of DE&I course curriculum which includes an array of topics such as Anti-Racism, Explicit and Unconscious Bias, Diversity in the Workplace, etc. I’m a Certified Diversity Professional by Cornell University.
I’m a seasoned professional transformational leader with over 35 years of experience both as a management consultant and executive industry leader. Through his leadership, I specializes in enhancing organizational culture, recognizing unconscious bias and how it affects the way people perceive and react to others, understanding the dimensions of diversity, assessing stereotypes and prejudices that may influence behavior, and developing a plan for transformation.
I have served in executive level positions as the Chief Financial Officer of several General Electric business units and the Art Institute of Atlanta. He has a successful track record of leading teams in the development and deployment of mission critical, high quality business solutions. I have administered pro forma audits and IT & financial analyses for $100+ million projects including feasibility studies, marketing services, IT assessments, and loan issues, and oversaw activities performed by third-party vendors, consultants, and law firms, while building cross-functional global teams, designing processes utilizing six sigma techniques, and delivering results supported with concrete financial metrics on budget and on time. He has excellent communication skills both oral and written with senior executives, end users, team members and other stakeholders.
I’m also is the owner & CEO of Tier1 Management Consulting Group. This company is focused on IT & Financial Auditing, providing business and process strategy, and implementation services for all aspects of regulatory compliance, ecommerce on a global scale, ROI analysis and ERP (SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle) applications.
I like the quote, “Ever Failed? Ever Tried? Then fail again; try again”. That’s the evolution of my journey with business. Keep failing, Keep trying, every “no” gets you closer to the “yes”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve slowed down a-lot and appreciate low-key types of things. Golf is DEFINITELY on the itinerary. I like to play at places like Country Club of the South, Atlanta National and Bears Best golf courses. I like the Alpharetta, North Fulton area for restaurants. Love sporting events, so if one of the professional sports teams are playing that week, we’re definitely hitting up a Atlanta Hawks game or Atlanta Falcons game.
In addition, I like live music, jazz or R&B. There’s a couple of nice places (like Kat’s Cafe) in midtown I like to hit up. I’m a huge music lover, so indoor or outdoor concerts are fun (Old-School of course).
One thing I like about Atlanta is the culture and arts. The recent Van Gogh exhibit was very enlightening and interactive. The Civil Rights Museum will have you emotional. Some of my friends who haven’t visited Atlanta in a while, like to visit The Aquarium, College Sports Hall of Fame, the MLK house, etc.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first thing that comes to mind is the support system of my family (Daughter, Son, Wife & Close Friends). They either encourage, correct, motivate or listen to my ideas, frustrations and successes
