Meet Jon Echols | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Echols and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has served to be one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. Many times taking risks are hard because you want to make sure that you’re not leaving yourself vulnerable and fear settles in. However, I’ve learned that without taking risk I will not be satisfied with not only my career but my life as well. There’s no better feeling than completing a task that is associated with risk because you know that you overcame an obstacle. For example, I always get nervous before performances but the feeling I have while on stage and after the performance makes everything worth while and reaffirms me that I’m doing what I should be doing with my life. Risks are necessary and don’t let fear stop you.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m Jon Echols, Singer Songwriter of The Tenth Music from Hampton, Virginia. Most recently what I’ve been the most proud of is my recent project “Pretty Privilege. The “Pretty Privilege” EP consists of 5 songs that is Grown and Sexy R&B. What sets me apart from other artist is my exposure to multiple decades of R&B. My father and mother were born in the 50’s and my brother and sister were born in the 80s. This allowed me to be exposed to R&B and music of all genres from the 60s all the way up to current date. This encouraged me to become a student of music and has helped shape my sound as an artist. Getting to the place that I am currently in music has not been an easy task. It’s taken a lot of sleepless nights, studying, rehearsing, networking and many other things that would impact my career positively. Though pursuing a career in music has been tough, it has also been rewarding because I am constantly tested. When you’re tested or challenged you get to see what you’re made of which is exciting. The best way to overcome these challenges is to not be afraid to fail, when failure is just opportunity to begin again more intelligently. My brand is growth and positivity through art while having the opportunity to bring my listeners with me in that growth. I love music and I’m appreciative that God gave me the talent to pursue music professionally.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you were taking a trip to Hampton, Virginia and I took you to get food it would have to be at one of these places Chic A Sea, Tommy’s, or Tuckers BBQ. If we were to go for drinks it would probably be the monroe rooftop bar. However, I would most likely go to the AMC 24 because I love watching movies. The most interesting thing about hampton is its history in the inception of the country.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m dedicating my Shoutout to my brother Josh Echols. He co-owns our company The Tenth Music with me and was the first person to seriously believe in me and my dream of being in the music business. Much love to my brother.
