Meet John Wetmore | Managing Partner, Integrity Marketing Group

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Wetmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I can be quite a risk taker by nature. I have taken a couple pretty big risks in my career, leaving a regular W2, 9-5 job in 2006 to start a mortgage company with no real experience that eventually failed a couple years later during the market crash of ’07/’08. After going back into the corporate world, I again walked away from another W2 job with 5 kids, to get into the Insurance business, which thankfully worked out way better than the mortgage path.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a life insurance agency, named Family First Life Agent Force, that today has over 2,000 agents that sell over 15,000 insurance policies monthly. I am most proud that we have been able to help so many agents make great money for their families as only 11 years ago, I had a 9-5 accounting job, making $40k a year. I started out selling life insurance as a part-time side hustle in 2012, going full time a year later and have been on a crazy journey ever since. I started out pretty mediocre in the space, but after becoming obsessive with learning this industry and sales, within 2 years I was one of the top few producers of life insurance premium in the Country. I decided pretty early on however, that I didn’t want to sell life insurance forever, so I began building an agency by hiring and training other life insurance agents to make multi 6 figures in the business and through a lot of hard work, thousands of interviews done myself and 8 years of traveling around the Country promoting our agency and helping train agents, we’ve become one of the largest insurance agencies in the US. In 2023, we’ll issue over $200,000,000 worth of new life insurance premiums for the year. My biggest obstacle along the way was definitely “learning people”, as I struggled to communicate without emotion whether it was talking to clients or new agents. I didn’t typically leave a conversation making people feel good, although I had good intentions my delivery was very poor, especially when it came to expressing what it took to have success when talking to our agents. Learning how to find out where people were in life, where they wanted to go, and what they were willing to sacrifice to get there, through very intentional questions, was a huge factor in growing this agency.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely get lots of good food around town, as Atlanta is known for some of the best dining spots. Some of my favorites are The Garden Room, Taqueria Tsunami, 101 Steak and Canoe. There is always a fun time to be had at the Battery and catching a Braves game. Personally I also enjoy hiking, living by Kennesaw Mountain, it’s an easy trip to several cool hikes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had help from so many people during my journey, to name a few, Stephanie, Mike, Shawn, Marc & Amanda have all played a huge role any success I may have attained so far, all are appreciated greatly.
