We had the good fortune of connecting with John Hansberry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what matters most to you?
Consistency. When it comes to anything in life; business, academics, sports, etc. the ones who make it are typically the ones who show up every single day. By putting in consistent work every single day, you’ll be able to see incremental improvement over the course weeks, months, and years. If you put in this type of work, people will think you’re an “overnight success” when in reality, you’ve been disciplined and putting in work for years. This discipline can be transferred to other parts of your life and you will reap the fruits of your labor. Show up everyday and you will surprise yourself how much you can improve in any area of your life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My name is John Hansberry and I’m a 23 year-old basketball trainer in South Florida. My business is called JQ Basketball Training. I train basketball players of all ages in individual and group sessions in person, as well as run camps all over the United States and (hopefully soon) abroad. I have grown my business primarily on social media, with platforms TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube @jqbasketballtraining. Overall, I’ve trained over 500 players over the course of my career and grown my social media to almost 200k followers over all platforms.
I started basketball training in 2018 while I was still playing college basketball at Bethel College. Making the full transition to training in 2019, I gained a much deeper understanding of the game and was mentored by other trainers. This time was fundamental in finding my “training style” which is what I like to call “game-ready training”. I’m the type of basketball trainer that will put players in game situations and have them perform actions that they will see in the game.
My influence has grown since 2019, when I had 3,000 followers on social media almost 200k almost two years later. It’s been a great ride thus far and I look to continue to learn, grow, and develop as a trainer, finding new tactics to help players of all ages and abilities reach their goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Never stayed in ATL, but love downtown! I would take them around the campus of Georgia State and visit the well-renowned restaurant “The Varsity”.
I currently live in South Florida.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my friend Josh Andrews. He’s really be influential in my rise as a basketball trainer and on social media. Shoutout to him for always showing love and support.
