We had the good fortune of connecting with John Cotton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
First and foremost I believe my faith in God is responsible for my success. I’m so blessed to have built a career doing what I love the most – helping my beloved clients look their best which makes them feel their best and as a result they can live their best life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Sure! I started off running a standard barbershop in Detroit where I’m from. Eventually, I moved to NYC where I opened John Cotton Studio and acquired A-List celebrity clientele. That was truly a dream come true.

Always looking for ways to provide additional value to my clients, I ventured into creating hair units aka “Man Weaves” and it is my greatest achievement so far.

“Man Weaves” give my clients who suffer from hair loss an opportunity to reclaim their look. My website www.manweave.com is now the number one site in the world for these highly sought after hair units.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Wild Ink, Hudson Yards Grill, Upload are my absolute favorites however NYC is the crossroads for the best restaurants in the world. In addition to the aforementioned, I recommend Carmine’s, STK and for the seafood lovers, The Boil. No matter what you want to eat, you can find it in New York.

As far as things to do in NYC, Central Park never fails to wow me even though it’s my backyard. I enjoy getting together with friends at the piers for yacht parties and of course shopping at Hudson Yards (NYC’s newest neighborhood and most expensive development project to date).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I would not be where I am if it was not for my loving mother, the continued support of my friends, family and God who directs & lights my path.

Special shoutout to my mentors Ronald Martin & Charles Ellis. Both of these great men believed in my vision enough to invest in two of my first shops.

Master Stylist Roberto Novo & Rodney Howell who helped me refine my barbering skills and offered guidance that has helped me establish and manage a robust business.

Jay Pharoah and Jussie Smollette who were my first A-List clients. It was their trust in my work that established me as a celebrity barber.

My mom again because I could never thank her enough, Jerald Young, my grandparents, Eric Weaver, sister, brother, dad, my loyal clients and last but most certainly not least, Shoutout Atlanta for sharing your platform with me. All the best to you and your readers.
