Meet Johanne Osias | Self-Care Coach and Haitian Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Johanne Osias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johanne, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work Life balance: for me the order is life work balance. I take my life very seriously and practice self-care routine daily. I am here as a demonstration on how soft life can be and work should be enjoyable. I am a professional napper which means I nap every single day. I am an early riser and enjoy my start of the day routine, where I pray, blessed myself, listen to binary music and journal before I sip my tea. I am full of energy and prefer a slow morning before I get my children ready for the day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Cooking is a form of art and I enjoy cooking all sort of things. And this year, I am focusing on offering authentic Haitian cuisine to my community. Cooking has always been a love language for me and I usually host brunch and dinner parties. I always say if we are friends and I haven’t cooked for you, then we might just be acquaintances. Food nourishes the body mind and soul and Haitian cuisine is a slow process and you have to pay attention and be intentional when cooking every dishes.
Interestingly enough, I was born and raised in Haiti and migrated to the USA when I was 15 years old. I went to High School in Brooklyn, NY and took all the ESL (English Second Language) and graduated from High School in 3 years. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at the University of Vermont where I discovered psychology and took all the required courses to secure a minor without declaring one. I worked as a Social Worker for a year before retuning to school and secured my Masters in Clinical Psychology in 2010 at Saint Micheal’s College. I worked as a professional Mental Health Therapist and Behavioral Coach for 14 years. I launched my first business during the pandemic in 2019 and although I enjoying working a Self-Care coach, cooking has been my calling and this year I am answering that call.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend is visiting for a long weekend, first we will stay home for the first day. We both enjoying cooking and we are both Haitian so we can spend our time listening to kompas and talking/laughing and cooking. On the 2nd day, we will go to Callaway Garden for the day. And the 3rd day, if it was her first time in Jonesboro, we will go to Downtown Atlanta and hit a few visitors spots, the Olympic park, Coca Cola, The Ferris wheel and the Museum. For food, the Nouveau for brunches and OZ pizza, Frank on the Mill and Breakfast Boys. We are both in our 40s so a good farmers market in Grant Park on Sundays or Peachetree City on Saturdays would work also.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am dedicating this Shoutout to my parents. My mother saw a better future for our family and migrated from Haiti, worked hard alone for many years before she brought the whole family to the USA. Thank you Mom and Dad for having me!!!
