Meet Joey Kwok | Animator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joey Kwok and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Animation is my thing, and it always motivates me. I want to be creative. I never considered building a business, but I am willing to help somebody.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Animation has been part of my DNA ever since I watched anime when I was a child. I’m always proud to be a 3d character animator. When I was back in Hong Kong after graduating from High School, I thought my passion was graphic design, but I never thought that I had made a wrong choice, so when I went to Scad, I knew that I needed to change my passion, so then I saw animation major, and animation was part of my childhood hobby. Being an animator is part of my passion. It’s not easy to be a 3d character animator. When I started learning animation, It was a challenge because I needed to know the software before I learned. And Maya, one of the animation software that I learned when I was in my Junior year during Scad days. Sometimes, when I have a problem, I will search for solutions to solve it. Sometimes, I learn that some problems can be solved with just one click a problem, but some problems need to be solved in a team. I want to let the world know that I am willing to sacrifice to help the team because I’m a useful character animator.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hong Kong is a place that I want my friends to come visit. It had great food and a great site to see. My favorite things to do are hiking, eating, and shopping; hiking is one of the best things to do because you can exercise and refresh your mind. I always went hiking back in the day when I was back in Hong Kong. Some churches can be great locations for sightseeing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate to my family and my legion of Mary back in Hong Kong. They are the ones that keep helping me a lot. I want to give special thanks to my close friend back in High school, but for some reason, he and I were not anymore. He was once an encouragement to me. And Scad, this college made me who I am today.
