We had the good fortune of connecting with JoeLeo Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JoeLeo, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is not to rush. You must remain consistent, but don’t rush anything. Don’t rush the creativity and don’t rush the business side either. Rushing will get you further away from your overall goal. This career path has taught me to trust myself more and base my decisions on my own thoughts and perception. You have to be selfish when it comes to building a brand from scratch. Input is ok, and an outside opinion is ok, but it’s your creation. Present it in a way you will feel most proud of. You have to give it a strong foundation. This will make it easier to illustrate to others.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
There was a lot of thought and creativity put into The GOOD LIFE Clothing Co. and building it into a brand before the word brand became popular as it is today. The biggest thing that distances it from other brands is consistency and longevity. It’s a brand I’m confident that will be around as long as I live and beyond. I’ve spent countless hours on creating icons that are visually captivating, bold, unique, and intriguing. I had to find a way to make logos look synonymous with “The GOOD LIFE”. This was achieved through inspiration of an art project and a conversation amongst friends. I used the typeface from this art project and made it work for the GOOD LIFE clothing brand that was conceived through a casual conversation about cool names for a clothing line. The rest of the icons and visual illustrations would come somewhat easy as time passed. The business part as in most cases would be the hardest part of my journey. The technological advantages of today have boosted my knowledge, increased my visibility, and allowed me to execute far better than when I started in 2002. It’s important for anyone reading about my journey to understand that you can’t quit! The breakthrough is coming, and to celebrate your wins. No matter the size.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being the Southern Gent I am, there’d be some great grilling going down at my crib or the park. I don’t get out much, but my favorite spots include cigars and scotch. I’d definitely call up the crew and fam and find a great meet up spot to listen to some music, drink, and smoke cigars. This meet up spot would most likely be my home or a close friends home. That’s the GOOD LIFE for me these days!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Shoutout goes to my wife Keisa Moss of Moss Lounge Wine. She’s my biggest supporter. Much love to my best of friends, Eddie Woodard, Marco Woodard, Xavier “Cuz” Jennings, and Brent Jennings.
A.R. Shaw and Pap Little who I’ve known since 5 years of age. All of these people and many others have supported and encouraged me since day one!
