We had the good fortune of connecting with JOCK MONOCC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JOCK, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Im from Flatbush, Brooklyn New York, “Yeeer” lol a City Boy for Sure! In todays light thats like a fad, something cool to be but many have no idea what’s it’s like growing up in “Thee” city, NYC That is.

Most people that meet me today, somehow always ends up saying “your so New York”. And that’s just it, the jungle really makes or breaks you, as a kid growing up you start out extremely independent, and if you weren’t confident you’d be tested. One of your first learning lessons is all you’ve got is yourself. Family was at work! No one in my family didn’t work! So my cousin and I had to do many things on our own which built character and strength.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art becomes art naturally. True creative don’t do it for a business honestly and sometimes once it becomes that which is great, you’ll still see a change in their happiness. Contrary to that we must always be excited for how triumphant we’ve become off what was once a silly dream. To have my clothes worn and seen on television or red carpets or even to get orders while at home watching television is an honor and something to celebrate if not scream! Making people feel as noble as my family made me feel while wearing JM pieces or outfits Is what it’s all about. None of this was easy especially doing it all alone. I’ve had people/companies imitate designs and or credit knowing I’m the pot the water boiled in! However when it is who you are naturally or “in you not on you” you’ll never need an explanation for a battle that’s already won. Some part of every business is meant to fool you, if ever I gave anyone advice before it was always to stay true to who you are, because “You Cannot Compete let alone Defeat with Superpowers that are not yours”.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friends came in town we’d probably have a ball in the house and turn it into a Shindig! Lol but if I had to pick, we’re going to get sushi & a drink FORSURE! Usually tequila please. After that any activity that gets us moving or jumping around. I love to have Real authentic fun, it’s so much less about clothes and superficial things although that’s my outer appearance anyone that knows me knows we’re going to get down and dirty regardless of the outfit yet we still gonna put it on. Lol I believe life is all about the experiences you’re never able to forget. In which I wouldn’t have a bucket list because I feel there is a limit to that or only what I could think of. I kind of circulate through life with open arms ready and willing for my next adventure and all that it may bring. Just like this at a time I really needed it, I truly Thank you guys for recognizing me as an ATL Hidden Gem.
Love Eternally- JOCK

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is very Hard for me because she just passed away, however I would not be JOCK MONOCC with out My Godmother/Cousin Tiffany Jarrett. She named me that when I was just a baby. The encouragement empowerment belief and love for me, the way she exhilarate excitement and the cadence in the way she pronounced my name when she saw me all lead me to carry the name to my business and go by it everyday for the world to utter it in the same way!
People get nick names from their family all the time, some of which they’re ashamed of anyone knowing, however it taught me to trust in myself as well as my vision. It reminded me of the light I carry and what would set me apart from anyone else.
My Late grandfather who passed on my birthday February 5th was Insistent in what he saw in me. Adamantly he’d say “JAR You gone be somebody”! Lol Which my family still recites him today. I would learn to fearlessly walk with my chest up and head held high confidently in whatever it was I did.
Though I figured I was just like any other kid, I was evidently different. So I will forever owe my career and life to Tiffany Jarrett & George Crawford because they built the magic I possess inside of me. And for that Im so greatful & appreciative that someone cherished me enough to have seen and prepared me for what i wouldn’t have ever known yet.
