We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelynn Tyson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jocelynn, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Makeup makes me happy because I can able to feel confident within myself. The confident I bring in when it comes to makeup always enhance the beauty I have in myself and to be more open .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I’m most proud of as MUA is my growth . I never wanted to give up on the passion I love for makeup artistry . I lost hearing when I was about 2 years old . I was profound deaf at 3 . Starting wearing my cochlear implant at 4 . I did sign language . It’s still a huge impact on my life and always will be . I wanted to makeup when I was 5 . I knew as a young age would be a life changing for me . I didn’t start doing makeup in 2014 . I’ve watched MUAs on YouTube and practice on myself knowing it’s my passion . It took a long time to get to where I wanna be and I told myself I wouldn’t give up . It wasn’t easy when you feel like you falling yourself short . It’s so challenging for me because I’m deaf with a cochlear implant . There’s no other woman like myself to do it . It took a lot of courage to know I’m gone inspire others who are like me so they will know “ don’t let your disability define who you are “ . You can do anything you wanna be . I want the world know about my brand BeautyBeatzbyJo that will always satisfied when it comes to beauty and feel beautiful inside/ out . Don’t let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do about your beauty . You are beautiful no matter what . Always love you and be confident about your beauty .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend in Atlanta . Atlanta is the place where you can actually network with people and the vibes is so on point when you can be around people where you don’t feel left out especially in the industry . Underground Atlanta downtown used to be the spot back in the day and so much have grown since then . It’s a lot do there. I can’t name them all , lol .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna shoutout to my families , friends , and also the makeup community who been on my toes and stay on my toes no matter how hard I push myself so serious about being a deaf ( cochlear implant ) Makeup Artist . Especially my father who is the main man in my life who has been encouraging and giving great advice as an artist . He’s a barber himself and knowing steps by steps . Without him , I wouldn’t be who I am today as an MUA of how much growth I put a lot of effort in .
