We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanna Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The desire to have a control over my own time. The flexibility to have a work-life balance. I wanted something that I can build to last forever. And most importantly have the financial freedom.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Baker that customizes cakes. It may seem like an easy task but it’s not. A lot goes into baking a cake, the time , creativity, ingredients etc. I love what I do. It’s actually very therapeutic for me. And being a perfectionist is not for the weak , I have to get everything perfect. But what I’m most proud of is not giving up on my talent & honestly taking my time. I can say the lessons I learned along the way is frosting cakes takes lots of practice. I just want the world to know, your I’m great hands with me. Not only will the cake taste good but you leave feeling happy with your customizable cake.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Me & my best friend love to eat. So I would definitely take her to some food spots in the city. We’re not much heavy drinkers , so we would do a wine tasting at winery. Go to a Pilates class.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my beautiful, happiest & brillant daughter I dedicate this shout to her. I don’t do this because I want to. I do this because I have to. Everything I do is for her. And When she gets older I want her to be super proud of her mommy.
