We had the good fortune of connecting with J’Leesa Hough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J’Leesa, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Fayetteville, NC but grew up in a small city called Raeford. In that city there was 1 high school and family lines run deep. Being from a small town, not many people leave to chase their dreams. So that motivated me. I knew I wasn’t going to be one of the ones stuck in my hometown. So with that thought process, I packed up my car and moved to Atlanta, GA.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a general manager of a dance studio. I manage three different locations in three different states. I have 15+ employees and over 150+ kids and parents I have to keep happy. I am most proud to be working at a black owned business and majority of our clients are minorities. To be honest I got where I am professionally by climbing the ladder and being an amazing worker. I originally got hired from an IG post as an Administrative assistant. I did that job so well I got offered the manager position for the Ga location, then the general manager position of the whole company. I had people from my home town not even believe me when I got hired so I had to overcome haters and show them I am actually “that girl” who runs Dollhouse. Along the way I have learned to go for what you want, if the job was meant for you, it will be yours. This was all in God’s plan. And I want to world to know if you have the faith the size of a mustard seed and manifest with your mouth, you too can have your dream job.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Even though I have been in Atlanta for 4 years, I still experience the city like a tourist. If a friend were to come to town, I would defiantly take them to Ponce De Leon Market to enjoy the shops, enjoy the beltline, have drinks at a lounge or bar and eat some good Korean BBQ. If it was a week long trip we will go somewhere by the water like Jamaica. I would want to experience different excursions like snorkeling and jet skiing. To be honest just seeing authentic culture in another country is the best thing to check out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout Dianna M Williams, inc. and Dollhouse Dance Factory, they were the first people and business to give me a chance. I have always been a hard worker, and easy to be trained and I was so blessed to be able to join this already established business and make it my second home.
