We had the good fortune of connecting with JIXXII and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JIXXII, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is essential for your happiness and purpose in life! We are all here on our own individual and unique journeys, but the one thing we have in common is that none of us were sent to play it safe. The only way that we can activate our divine purpose in life is to take risks, take chances, make mistakes, and to learn by experience. You can only learn so much in theory, but true wisdom and fulfillment comes from embodying what you have learned. You have to bring your ideas down from your head and into physical manifestation in order to experience the success that awaits you. I am still very much in this process myself, and one thing I have realized is that nothing great comes from playing it safe and keeping all of your thoughts and ideas inside of your mind. In my career, I take risks by never limiting myself. I am JIXXII, a multidimensional artist of all mediums – a painter, singer, music producer, designer, writer, and so much more. I have never limited myself to just one medium, that would feel like a prison to me! It’s essential to express myself in all of these mediums, because each medium teaches me something unique, and allows me to access different parts of myself as an artist and as a human being. Painting teaches me patience, and develops my sense of courage. It takes courage to make a mark on a blank canvas with absolute confidence. Singing teaches me to express myself vocally, and to speak my mind and heart. Singing allows me to access my emotions and release those emotions in a healthy way. Music production satisfies my yearning for complete control over what I create, and also teaches me that nothing is out of my grasp, as long as I put my mind and focus into it. I never censor myself in anything I create, and choose to release the outcome of perception. The risk is complete authentic expression, and that is what I love about myself the most.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art and music are honest expressions of my soul. I create paintings and songs that tell the stories of my life. Every emotional experience that I have been through is the fuel for my expression. I often hear from complete strangers, that they feel like they know me on an intimate level, just by listening to my music or seeing my paintings. That means so much to me! One thing that I know sets me apart from any artist or musician, is that I was born with total aphantasia – the inability to visualize consciously in the mind, combined with the inability to hear any sounds in the mind, like inner dialogue for example. Everything I have created was done with a mind that others deem as inept for creativity! How can someone who doesn’t visualize consciously, create beautiful and thoughtful works of art? How can someone who can’t hear in their mind, write songs and produce their own music? I hope to inspire people with my own life and experience as an aphant, to encourage them to embrace their God-given right to be creative in their truest nature. I would also like to note, that my brain has been changing over the past year. For 25 years, I was unable to visualize a single thing in my mind while awake, even a single shape or color. This past year, my 26th year of life, I have begun to visualize images and color while in very deep meditations. I’m still understanding and processing this major change, and it is not something that I can yet control. However, I hope that my experience will give hope to other aphant artists who wish to access that part of their mind. I truly believe in miracles and that anything is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in Southern California, and love to roller skate! I would take my skater friends at the Santa Monica boardwalk, and also the Long Beach lighthouse boardwalk. For my artist friends, I would take them to see the beautiful and timeless works of art at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, CA. For my nature loving friends, I would take them to Mt. Baldy, the mountain that I grew up visiting and exploring, to catch a stunning sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout anyone who has ever supported my artwork, or listened to my music. It brings me deep healing to express the most vulnerable parts of my soul, and to have people resonate with those emotions and experiences. You know who you are! And you mean the world to me. I create for myself first and foremost, but it brings me so much soul fulfillment to know that my pure self expression actually has the power to bring peace, joy, and healing to others around me.
