We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy McFan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jimmy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because it’s what I’ve always dreamed of doing. I’ve always had the mentality that there is no plan B or C. People that think like that aren’t willing to sacrifice what it takes to get to where you want to be. I think that’s what separates people who are passionate and people who are thinking of it as a hobby.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a singer, songwriter, producer, and musician I look and listen to music in so many different ways. I put every part of me into my craft. I love creating a vision and making it come to life. Sonically, and cinematically. I’m excited to continue releasing visuals from my latest album, “In My Dreams” the im storytelling and ideas that I have in my mind. I can’t wait to share with the world. I started releasing music about 2 years ago now. It took a bit of trial and error with my first album. But this second album and the lead single, “Boy Boy” really took my career to a new level. It’s defined a milestone for me. It wasn’t easy, there’s a lot of self doubt and the moment anyone sees that, they feed off of it. But, I knew that my sound, dream, and talent would be way bigger than the self sabotage so I turned the valine down on those thoughts and people. I honestly just want anyone who listens or supports me to takeaway that dreams can come true and to appreciate how much work you have done. I’m not huge or well-know yet and that’s ok, I can sit back and be prod or what I’ve accomplished. I want people who see me to appreciate their hard work. Because dreams don’t come true overnight.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t been in Atlanta long but this far, I’ve really enjoyed the night scene. I’ve never been one to “go-out” and I’m still pretty introverted. But, it’s pretty nice. Places, I’d take a friend if they were visiting probably would be SluttyVegan naturally. Cascade definitely, and hang out at BarVegan.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a shout-out to my choir director Dr. Dells Thedford. He’s mainly the reason I’m so versatile in sound. He taught us many styles of music, and how to properly sing them.
