Meet Jimmy Ferrante | Recording Artist (Jphresh)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Ferrante and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jimmy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue the artistic & creative route because growing up, I always felt more of a creative type of person whether it be painting, drawing, dancing, or playing instruments. Before school I would watch music videos on MTV & BET. After school, I would watch live concerts of my favorite artists or go on YouTube looking up tutorials on how to write a song and how to record vocals using my iPod touch before downloading professional music software. When I was about 10 my dad handed me a Jackson 5 CD & that’s when I really fell in love with music and performing arts.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Some goals I have accomplished that I’m extremely proud of artistically, are to release and put music out into the world.
Back in 2012, when I decided to give music a try, I was extremely nervous, and all of my ideas and visions did not sound the way I wanted them to, and I knew it was going to be a challenge which made me want to give up.
I didn’t let that stop me and have then created my own sound and style that I am still working on to this day while being a self taught singer / songwriter. The genre of music that I create consists of R&B, Hip hop and Pop. I am open to expanding my catalogue with other genres. I’m excited to share new original music I’ve been working on as well as some rebranding decisions that I’ve been deciding for a while. I have been recording and creating short covers of my favorite songs and artists that I post on my social media to add to my portfolio. I am now well past 10,000 hours in my creative space / studio alone. Other artists and creators could agree that it’s extremely important to get the reps in and practice makes perfect for creative development.
One thing I want the world to know is if you love and have a passion to create any type of art don’t overthink it & showcase what you’re proud of. There are millions of people in the world, so someone is going to love what you create, keep going!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a good friend visiting the area, I’d take them to Valley Forge Park. Then continue our day by going into Center City Philadelphia to check out the Museum of Art / grab some lunch or dinner and possibly see if there are any concerts in town. If we have more time later in the week and depending on the season, I’d buy tickets to a Philly sports game as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a special shoutout first and foremost to my parents, since they always have shown love and support since the beginning of my creative journey. They bought me my first computer and microphone to help get me started when I was 13 years old. Without their support I may have not continued to create music. I also want to give a shout out to the rest of my friends and family for showing me love and support as well.
Another special shoutout goes to my audio engineer / producer, Peter (@Aka-1da) for always helping me complete the vision and mix and master all of my records. His help is very much appreciated throughout this journey.
I also want to give a shoutout to a book titled “The Creative Act: A Way of Being” by Rick Rubin. His book is very relatable to the creative process and helped me connect the dots to spark new ideas.
A quote that stood out to me while reading this book is, “People don’t need to find what you do interesting. If it’s interesting to you, that’s all that matters.” – Rick Rubin
