We had the good fortune of connecting with Jim Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jim, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is understanding that a great idea can still be great but the timing and context may not be great to act on that idea today. In a world full of distractions I have learned to not chase every great idea but to keep those ideas close and seek the appropriate time to explore them further. Some ideas may need enterprise, resources, or collaboration and understanding what is at reach and what may need planning is usually an easy way to act on ideas or store them for later use. An idea not acted upon today isn’t lost, its an idea that needs time to prosper.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is to strategically advise business professionals on creative approaches to enhancing revenue, systems, and human capital. In other words, I have a unique approach to understand problems within a business and how to mitigate them quickly for further opportunities and growth. What sets me apart from others within the industry is my approach on how to identify the problem and align it with vision of the individual or company while building a supportive culture to ensure the results needed by the entire team. Getting to where I am today took a lot of failures and lessons. I have had an interesting set of skills within different industries to find myself back where it all started and what I was really good at. I learned over the years, when to follow your head or your heart. For example, I followed my head when I got into real estate and after a couple years I realized that although the money was great, this took me away from what served my soul. I then figured out how to make the money and feel good about what I was offering and how I was helping others. You can follow your heart and your head, it just takes time learning and understand each of those ingredients to bake the perfect cake! IF there was one thing that I want to the world to know about my story is that its never as bad as you think and to cherish and reflect on moments in present time before they are gone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them for a walk through centennial olympic park to capture the essence of the city but also enjoy the subtle reminders of nature. I always enjoyed walking through this park because… to me… it was the perfect blend of two different universes rolled up in one. I would then take them on the sky view Ferris wheel to bring back nostalgic moments of childhood and get a different perspective on the city. I would then end the day by taking them to vortex burger in little 5 points to indulge on the zombie apocalypse burger!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe that success is a culmination of relationships, eagerness, and risk. Without mentors, education & support systems I wouldn’t be where I am today. Some of those resources include folks like Brad Lea who taught me to focus on the most important relationship in life – the one with yourself. My father telling me repeatedly over the years that I can be anything I want in life. My wife supporting my risk taking ventures early on in our marriage and during pregnancy of our first child. These people in my life, made my life what it is today and taught me relationships, eagerness, and risk!
