Meet Jillian Smith | Realtor + Real Estate Investor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jillian Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jillian, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risky behavior is what tends to set apart those that can achieve their dreams from those who only realize them during sleeping hours. I’ve made many risks professionally and personally. In the past 10 years I’ve moved across the country 5 times. Each time not knowing a soul in the town I was moving to. Most people thought I was crazy being a single mom of four young kids and starting a business purely based on commission. Years ago, I was foolish and thought real estate was risky to invest in, and it is if you’re thoughtlessly throwing money at homes. To advert the risk, I research the market and its data daily. I know the market value of a home and what it can rent or resale for. Real estate is one of the safest and most lucrative investments you can make. No risk, no reward. I see my rewards daily and I’m thankful for the risks I have taken in all aspects of my life.

What should our readers know about your business?
The most common question I get almost daily as a Realtor is, “What’s happening with the housing market right now?” No one can tell you exactly what is going to happen with the housing market. If they say they can, they are lying. What I can tell you are facts. I have a Bachelors degree in Sociology. I have studied groups of people and why they do what they do. It is ingrained in my brain to always get my facts from a creditable source. So, when you see me post my weekly market updates, interest rates, what makes a home sell, a home’s value, or why we’re still in a sellers market on my Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or TikTok you will know I’m always going to give you correct information based on my research.
The other day I was on the phone with a lady who was interested in moving back to Georgia. The phone conversation lasted about 45 minutes and about 7 minutes of that conversation was about her housing needs. The other 38 minutes was about the current struggles her and her family are going through. This isn’t the first conversation with someone where it has gone like this, and it won’t be the last. Everybody is going through something! I’ve not only become a Realtor to my clients, but a friend, therapist, city guide, dog sitter, etc. I love all the unique individuals I have met through my career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend brought their kids, this is where we’re going: -Fernbank Museum: rain or shine this is a fun place for kids
-Piedmont Park: my kids and I always bring bread to feed the ducks and turtles at the pond
-Georgia Aquarium: we love the dolphin show and eating our lunch by the beluga whales
-Stone Mountain: mini golf, train ride, laser show
-Chick-Fil-A Backstage Tour: free and fun for everyone
-Halcyon: great food and places for kids to play
-The Yard Milkshake Bar: fun, creative and delicious milk shakes
-Waffle House: if my friend’s too good to eat here, they’re not my friend
-Fellini’s Pizza: you can’t go wrong with these pizzas
-Revolving Sushi Factory: it’s an experience for everyone
-Truett’s Luau Chick-Fil-A: new Hawaiian menu items that are delicious
If my friend didn’t bring their kids, we’d go here:
-Hiking: Roswell Mill Waterfall, Anna Ruby Falls, Vickery Creek Waterfall
-Braves Game: the atmosphere is what makes those games so much fun
-Johnny’s Hideaway: I feel like everyone needs to experience this place on a random Wednesday night once in their life
-Amore e Amore: the restaurant is currently Harry Potter themed!
-Drawbar: great views of the city and the esthetics are beautiful
-The General Muir: brunch here is highly recommended
-Osha Thai Sushi Galleria: the food and vibe are both amazing
-Revolution Doughnuts: I could eat these doughnuts for breakfast, lunch and dinner
-North Italia: to die for Italian food
-Smokin PO Boys BBQ: some of the best wings and BBQ you’ll find in Georgia

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My kids – Miles, Taitum, Emery and Reese. As I was studying to take the real estate exam my oldest daughter asked me, “How late do you stay up late studying?” I told her, “Usually around midnight”. The next day I had a letter on my bedroom doorknob that said “Is it midnight yet? You got this!” My kids always encourage me to do and be the best person I can be.
