We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Gainesville, Florida. I was born to two Entrepreneurs, My Mother and Father. My Dad still currently own and operate James Janitorial Service and My mom who is in heaven and is now my guardian angel was a hair stylist and owned her hair salon called Flo’s Beauty Salon, She specialized in everything beauty and loved fashion, I remember she had a makeup line of eyeshadows and lipsticks by Vera Moore that I played in on a daily basis which inspired me to launch my own cosmetics line Jay-Jill Cosmetics. I had the opportunity to meet Vera Moore in NYC and told her my story, I told her she was my moms favorite makeup. Mrs. Moore was very encouraging and told me to never give up my dream. As for the fashion, My mother had the opportunity to style hair for the Ebony Fashion Fair Models when they would come to Gainesville and my best friend and I had the opportunity to meet all of the models, play in their clothes and shoes, This triggered my love for modeling. I love a good fashion show.

As much as I tried to run away from owning a business, I had to answer when God called me to do it. So here I am. Bigger, better, smarter and more wise than I was before.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I Retired from Department Of Corrections after 14 years to pursue my interest in makeup and skin care. During the time as a Correctional Officer I was into acting and modeling doing alot of background work Green Leaf, David Makes Man, Drop Dead Diva, Good Deeds, Veer!, Final Destination 4 3D, Bad Mom, Past Life, Teen Wolfe to name a few.

I also had the privilege of being featured in beauty publications: Sheen Magazine, Essence Beauty Tour Online, Hype Hair Magazine (Top 10 Model in Plus Competition) Style Q Hair Magazine, Hair Digest.

When starting a business is not easy, Although it may look easy, but without investing in the mentorship or coaching it will be just as hard. I learned when I first started out, I had no clue what I was doing, I thought I knew, I had somewhat of an idea but did not know the “meat and potatoes” of the business side only what I saw. Now I see where I went wrong and corrected those things moving forward. I have learned to pray, be patient, stay focus and execute.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting the area, I would plan accordingly, First night of arrival we would go out to dinner to the Cheesecake Factory then the following day head down south to the port to hop on a ship and off to Jamaica we go for the remaining days which is normally what we do any way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I’d like to thanks and honor to God first and foremost. My parents CJ & Flo James. Shout out and a huge thank you to my husband who has been one of my biggest supporters, Lets roll it back for a minute, There are several people who has definately been down for me since the beginning back when I first started acting and doing background talent work in TV & Film and modeling starting back in 2008. I’d like to give a shout out to Ms.Nicki Mack of Diva Day International she is always ready at the first ring ready to beat a face or rip a runway for anything I try to come up with when I have no clue of what I’m doing and also same goes for my ladies Molly Hopkins & Cynthia Decker over at Livi-Rae Lingerie. My Atlanta Dolls are my number one star players.

To bring it forward, I must give credit where credit is due. I must shout out to my Business Mentor Candace Holyfield Parker aka Six Figure Spa Chick of Atlanta, Ga, The number one Queen of Spa. She has coached me along the way to reopening my Glamtique/Spa and I am on my way to seeing six figures in my business. Since joining the Spa Boss Tribe I have met so many amazing women entrepreneurs in the spa industry who look like me, We hold each other accountable to hit our goals within our business and encourage each other. In 2019 at the last Black Spa Expo in Atlanta, I met Michelle Foye owner of Precise Screening, She became one of my business coaches as well. Michelle guided me along the way and I’m pleased to announce my new business Pure Screening Solutions, LLC. A DOT/Non-DOT Drug Testing Site which is located inside of my Spa. This is how we roll over in the Spa Boss Tribe. Thank You Candace Holyfield Parker for everything you do for me and for the tribe.
