We had the good fortune of connecting with Jibreel Garnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jibreel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
It is the ultimate key to elevation. You discover yourself through risk, because you cannot fathom what you are capable of without it. Success and risk are infinitely parallel.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was employed with Sephora as a Beauty Advisor for 12 years. My expertise lies in fragrance and skincare. I have recently left the world of retail to focus on growing my brand. Without support from friends, family and employees, I would not be where I am today. I overcame my challenges by finding alternate routes when the road was blocked. When told what I was trying to achieve was not possible, I found motivation through doubt and cynicism. I have learned to run with my instincts and take risks. It may not always immediately lead to success, but gaining a step forward is always worth it. Jibreel Garnett Parfums is a fusion of romance, numerology, poetry and historical moments. It’s not just about me, but what resonates with you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places to visit is Ponce City Market. It’s unique and contemporary with many great places to eat and shop. I also enjoy the ambiance of rooftop lounges.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give recognition to Barb Stegemann, CEO of The 7 Virtues fragrance brand and author of The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen. Listening to her public speaking and business philosophies has inspired me to take the leap forward that often terrified me. I would also like to shoutout artists Nick Butlak, Kate Lombardi and Johnny Lombardi. They have been very supportive of me through my journey.
