We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhonn de La Puente and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jhonn, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make was leaving my two young adult children back in New York City to move to Atlanta, a place where I didn’t know a single soul. I was following a dream deeply embedded in my heart: to pursue a career in the film and TV industry as an actor. This decision required me to step away from my daily life with my children and venture into the unknown. However, my faith played a crucial role in this pivotal moment. I’ve always believed that when God tells you to move, you move. It’s about trusting Him to direct your steps, even when the path isn’t clear. This leap of faith was fueled not only by my passion for acting but also by my trust in God’s plan for me. Despite the emotional challenges, I saw it as an opportunity to demonstrate to my children the importance of following their passions and listening to God’s call, no matter the sacrifices involved. It was a testament to my belief that when we move in faith, letting God guide our journey, we open ourselves to the extraordinary possibilities He has in store for us. In addition to that, I really had no choice since I gave my children my word that they would see their dad on the big screen sooner than they think. So, yes, the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make was leaving my children to pursue my purposeful journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My career path has been anything but linear, characterized by a blend of entrepreneurship, storytelling, and ultimately, a foray into acting. At heart, I’ve always been a writer and a storyteller, fascinated by the power of words to move, inspire, and transform. My journey began in the realm of entrepreneurship, where I channeled my creativity into building a business from the ground up. This phase of my life taught me resilience, innovation, and the art of storytelling in business.
What truly sets me apart is not just my ability to weave compelling narratives but my entrepreneurial spirit and how it has shaped my approach to acting. I am most proud of my ability to pivot, to see beyond the immediate challenges and remain steadfast in the pursuit of my passions. My journey from an entrepreneur to an actor is a testament to the belief that with creativity, grit, and a bit of courage, one can traverse multiple worlds and make a mark in each.
The transition wasn’t easy. There were moments of significant sacrifice, like in 2011, when I was faced with the stark choice between securing a roof over my head or investing in my dream. I chose the latter, a decision that led to a period of homelessness. This chapter was one of the hardest, yet it taught me the essence of resilience and faith. My entrepreneurial journey had its ups and downs, but it was my unwavering belief in my vision, supported by my faith in God, that guided me through the darkest times.
Overcoming these challenges taught me invaluable lessons about persistence, the power of a positive mindset, and the strength found in vulnerability. It’s these lessons that I bring to my work as an actor and a storyteller, infusing my roles with authenticity and depth, drawing from my own experiences of adversity and triumph.
What I want the world to know about me, my brand, and my story is that it is rooted in resilience, creativity, and the relentless pursuit of one’s dreams. My entrepreneurial background has endowed me with a unique perspective on storytelling, one that I carry into my acting. It’s a narrative of not just surviving but thriving amidst adversity, a reminder that our dreams are valid and achievable, regardless of the obstacles we face.
My journey underscores the message that true success comes from the courage to pursue your passions, the resilience to withstand life’s trials, and the faith to keep moving forward, even when the path is unclear. Allow God to direct your steps and as a reminder Psalm 46:10 when in doubt. Remain “still” and know that God has your back always.
It’s a story I hope will inspire others to chase their dreams, with their unique talents, and believe in their capacity to make a difference in the world.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Absolutely, the journey I’ve embarked upon has been significantly shaped by the incredible individuals and their unwavering support, mentorship, and encouragement. I have to start by shouting out my mom and children, who are my rocks. My mom has always been my biggest cheerleader, offering support and unconditional, judgment-free love. My two amazing children gave me their blessings to pursue my dreams in Atlanta, GA.
First and foremost, I want to give a massive shoutout to my brother for life, Sixx King of Sixx Degrees Media and Sixx Degrees Films. Sixx was instrumental in casting me in my first role in one of his films, marking a pivotal moment in my acting career. From there, we co-produced a documentary. His belief in my potential and his relentless support have been transformative for me. He sparked the curiosity in me to pursue acting as an entertainer in the Film and TV industry. Check out his installments of his two new movies out right now, “Once Upon a Time in Philly Part 1” and “Part 2 and Part 3 coming soon.
Following my brother for life, Sixx, I must acknowledge the phenomenal Janel Nicole, Founder & CEO of Ambient Digital Media Studios, LLC. Janel, an extraordinary 23X Award-winning film producer, writer, and director, and a 5X Grammy Ballot Finalist, has been a beacon of inspiration and guidance since I got to Atlanta, GA. Her dedication to the craft and her visionary, God-fearing leadership in the industry have profoundly influenced my path and aspirations. Thank you, Janel, you are truly a gem, and our friendship goes beyond this industry.
I also want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my other brother, Cleon James, the director, producer, writer, and owner of Top Notch Visions Films. Cleon’s expertise and creative genius have significantly impacted my career, providing me with opportunities to grow and excel in ways I had never imagined. Because of him, I was able to celebrate my b-EARTH-day in Jamaica while doing a red carpet event for our movie premiere “Second Chance”. He and his wife cast me and gave me the chance to star in one of his films that has garnered rave reviews across the country and internationally.
Last but definitely not least, I’d like to shout out to another friend for life, the incredibly talented award-winning, multi talented entrepreneur and actress Merlisa Determined, who co-starred with me in the movie “Second Chance” directed by Cleon James. Working alongside Merlisa was not only a privilege but also a learning experience that has enriched my understanding and appreciation for acting. Her professionalism, dedication, commitment, consistency and over all gift and talent are the biggest reason for her award winning success. Her empathy for others and her drive to see others win is why she gets blessed beyond measure. And I respect and appreciate that about her being.
Each of these remarkable individuals has played a crucial role in my journey, offering their support, mentorship, love, and encouragement. Their collective contributions have not only shaped my career thus far but have also left an indelible  mark on my life. I am eternally grateful for their presence in my story and dedicate this shoutout to them, recognizing their incredible talent, dedication, and the positive impact they have made on me and the industry at large.
In closing, I want to share a piece of wisdom that has guided me through the twists and turns of my journey: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase,” as Martin Luther King Jr. so eloquently put it. This journey of mine, from the streets of New York City to the bustling avenues of Atlanta, from the depths of hardship to the peaks of success, has been a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and the human spirit.
To anyone reading this, remember that your dreams are valid, and your aspirations are achievable. The road may be fraught with challenges, but it’s in facing these challenges that we discover our true strength. Let your faith be bigger than your fears. Trust in the divine plan for your life, for it is in this trust that we find the courage to pursue our passions and the strength to overcome our obstacles.
Let this story be a reminder that no matter where you come from or what you’re going through, you have within you the power to change your narrative. Your current circumstances do not define your future potential. With faith, determination, and the support of those who believe in you, there are no limits to what you can achieve.
I am humbled and grateful for every experience that has led me to this moment. To those who have supported me, to those who have inspired me, and to God, who has guided me every step of the way, my heart is full of gratitude. My journey is a living proof that when you lean on faith, embrace your journey, and commit to your dreams, God and the universe conspires to help you succeed.
As we part ways in this conversation, I leave you with this: Shine your light, pursue your passions, and never underestimate the power of faith and hard work. The world needs your unique gifts, and it’s your time to step into your greatness. May your journey be blessed, and may you always find the strength to keep moving forward, guided by the light of faith and the boundless potential of your spirit.
