We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhiya Penland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jhiya, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Trusting God and having faith!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m mostly proud of my mindset! During the time I started my customs, i was in quarantine a little longer than all of my friends and family. I was going crazy! Everyone was out and about enjoying their lives while I was stuck in the house i couldn’t go anywhere or see anyone due to having covid-19. Having covid was definitely a minor setback for a major comeback but now i’m ready to dominate the world and go after my dreams. No, it wasn’t easy at all. I had to find other ways to keep myself busy and my mind clear of all negativity. Luckily, at that time, i had people around me who checked in to help me keep my spirits up. That’s when i got on to youtube and started teaching myself different techniques and designs. After i got the concept of what to do, i called up some of my family and friends and asked if they a pair of old shoes that i could practice on and that’s when DiamondsKustomKickz came into play. I’m still in the beginning stages but i know as time goes on i’ll get better and better every time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came into town, We would have so much fun! I would take him to The Complex where we will play competitive games. Our next stop would be Main Event where we play even more competitive games. The basketball game to be exact. We would also visit The Yard House where they have a delicious variety of different foods. Then we’ll go shopping at Atlantic Station where they have a variety of stores. You can never go wrong with the Georgia Aquarium or even The Selfie Museum. You need to have photos/videos of everywhere you went with your best friend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Just a small shout out to everyone who helped me with the brand as a whole. My family and my close friends, It’s definitely not easy when you’re doing it all by yourself. I can always count on them to help me with ideas or just to see if my creation is good enough to be worn or posted online for others to see. Another person that I want to give a shoutout to is an AMAZING author by the name of Brittni Kirkpatrick. She has a series of books out but the book that really inspired me in every single aspect of life is called “Black Girl You Can Do This” In the book, she’s encouraging the upcoming generation to think outside the box when it comes to something you love. Never be afraid to be a light in a crowd of darkness. She also talks about being a leader instead of a follower.
