We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Streetman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I give God the glory for being able to start my own business. I LOVE to bake, but I am horrible with the workings of a business. We are proud to tell people that God owns Chick N Scratch, We just run it to the best of our abilities. So it should not come as a surprise that the secret ingredient is LOVE.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We make everything from scratch “just like Grandma made them”. We take pride in the goodies we offer. We use brand specific quality ingredients, and we don’t “skimp” on quality for the sake of making a dollar.
The proud moments are when people say ” this tastes JUST LIKE Mawmaw’s chocolate cake” or even “ALMOST as good as Granny’s baked banana pudding.” We will play 2nd fiddle to Grandma- any day.
Like Joe Dirt would say: ” Just keep on, keeping on”. Be consistent with our quality ingredients even when grocery prices started skyrocketing. We are brand specific on most of our ingredients. We believe the consistency in our quality is what keeps customers coming back and keeps them referring friends.
Keep God first and everything else will work itself out and fall into place. I could give you a million stories of how I have seen the hand of God work through this business venture.
I tell people all of the time “baking is in my soul”. I have a picture of me hanging at the shop. I was about 4 years old standing in a chair stirring up cornbread- same cheesy smile today as back then.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost we would like to shoutout to our customers. Without their support, we would not be able to do what we love. All of the love and support from family, friends and our community is immeasurable.
