Meet Jessica Louty-scarborough | Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Louty-scarborough and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Ohio, but I’ve lived in Georgia my whole life! I come from a family of artisans. I worked in a salon & attended cosmetology school with my aunt. She was an artist and hairstylist for over 12 years until her recent passing. My mom taught art classes for my elementary school. I have an uncle who is a woodworker for Walt Disney. My upbringing was a huge part of finding my career path; growing up, I was always encouraged to express myself in whichever way I chose.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that sets me apart from others is my knowledge of the industry and how hair helps to shape our identity. I like to dig into lifestyle, color theory, personal style, etc. Being informed about all this during our initial consultation will help me set up the rest of our time together for success. Do you struggle with dry scalp? Do you have warm undertones on your skin? Do you only want to be in the salon twice a year? All these things, in combination, help shape our identity, and our image should reflect that. That’s where I come into play and can help lead you to the look best suited for you. My brand is all about self-expression and creativity.
I’ve been passionate about beauty for as long as I can remember. In the beginning, I was a kitchen beautician at age 13, following in my mother’s footsteps. Some of my favorite memories are of those times. You name it, we were doing it in the kitchen. Extensions and all! I began school at 19 and started my first assisting job shortly after. I’ve moved around and changed jobs but always landed on my feet! One of the things I love about this industry is the freedom & flexibility to pick up and go. I am my brand; I can take my talent anywhere and be successful. I think that’s a beautiful thing! My family has always supported me in my decision-making. I have a wonderful husband who motivates me daily to be the best version of myself. Everything I do is for him and my beautiful baby boy. I genuinely love my career. Hairstylists are a pivotal part of everyone’s community in all the best ways. I love seeing my guests daily and connecting with other women, mothers, sisters, and daughters. I’m so honored to be able to share a bit of my story with you, and I hope it inspires someone else out there looking to get into the industry!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Metro Atlanta is one of my favorite places, filled with just the right mix of nature and city. I love to visit East Palisades and explore along the Chattahoochee River when the weather is right. Sweetwater Creek is also a fun place to go and bring your kids or dog. Hanging out in Marietta Square is always nice because it’s the perfect suburban place to get your city on. I love to go for cocktails and tapas at Silla Del Toro or Hamp & Harrys for a meal. There is the cutest bookstore to check out right across the street as well- The Reading Attic. Downtown Dallas is also a fun up-and-coming area. Kitsch & Color is the cutest home goods store! Perfect for grabbing something cute for yourself or a gift for a friend. You can also hit up the farmers market every Saturday morning. Now, for shopping, you must go inside the perimeter to find something unique. Perimeter Mall is my favorite, but for vintage clothing and accessories, you can find me in L5P and the world’s best burrito at Elmyr. I also love a good secondhand store. The Uptown Cheapskate in Acworth is my go-to. There is so much to do, and Atlanta is such a big and fun city!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my aunt Bonnie & of course, my mom.
