We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Larcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how does your business help the community?
I teach a pre-k learning program, that focuses on the foundation of reading through projects. Although the foundation of reading is my focus, the goal is to create an environment where my students are able to develop a love of learning and build confidence in themselves.

Growing up I had teachers who built up my self-confidence and I have had teachers who tore me down. I am on a mission to make sure I can build up as many students as possible.
Starting at this age increases their chances of becoming confident learners in elementary school, high school, and beyond.

I was also the type of student that needed the material to come alive, to keep me engaged. Learning through projects allows students to see that what they are learning has a direct correlation to their everyday life. Sitting down and completing worksheets has its place but all students, even adults learn through experience.

This is why I am passionate about teaching children through projects. Not only are they able to learn the foundations of reading, but I am also able to teach turn-taking, motor skills, and problem-solving skills. Someone can be the best reader but when combined with these other skills it guarantees their ability to learn in the future and contribute to those around them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As mentioned before I am passionate about creating a positive learning environment for children to flourish. I am confident that I can provide for my students. However, when I started this journey I would NOT call myself a businesswoman. Learning, how to market, to go on sales calls, all while continuing to provide my students with the best experience was difficult and took me on a roller coaster of emotions. Am I good enough, is my program good enough?

I learned that I don’t need to suffer in silence. I decided to invest in programs to help me learn how to manage a business, instead of guessing my way through. A business coach on IG @itsangelajackson and a program run by Elliot Phillips, that focuses on teachers/tutors growing their businesses have given me the foundation I needed.

I always tell my students to ask questions and to try their best and I needed to follow my own advice. Thank goodness I did because going through this learning journey not only made me a more confident business owner and teacher, but most importantly I grew confident in myself as a person.

I grew into a person that is able to better serve my students and support their wonderful parents.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shout-out to my husband. He always supports my vision but most importantly, he keeps me balanced and focused on what’s most important. I tend to get anxious quickly, but everything is easier to handle with him by my side.
