We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica ‘Empress Lanice’ Chalmers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica ‘Empress Lanice’, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to allow me to have the creative and financial freedom, as well as, being able to manage my own time. I also wanted to create jobs so that people won’t experience lack.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Empress Lanice Public Relations Agency helps small businesses in health & wellness and non-profit organizations to be known for what they love to do and to leave a legacy online. I am most excited about finally finding a niche in my company that is in alignment of my own personal values and current state in life. Before forming Empress Lanice Public Relations Agency, I had another company, Tha L. Spot Productions (formerly known as Tha L. Spot Ent. & P.R.). I worked with entertainers and music artists, which I loved doing at the early start of my career. However, as I got older, I noticed my interest began to change. I’ve been more consciously lately on my health and wellness, and I realized I’ve been attracting only clients in those areas. It’s not an easy journey to getting here but the journey was worth it. I understand who I am today that I can provide services that I enjoy and seek to learn from.

Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to trust myself, trust my team, and know my numbers. These things are important to expand and grow the business.

I want the world to know that anything is possible and there is no limit on what you can achieve!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not an itinerary person when it comes to visiting, however, on the first day I would do a home cooked meal. I enjoy hosting. Then, throughout the week, I would probably see if there’s any local events happening, or go to a bar, possibly go roller skating. It depends on the vibes that me and my best friend would be in.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shout out my family and friends for encouraging me to start my first business in 2012 right after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Public Relations. Thank you to my first set of clients and those who are currently working me today. Thank you to all of the team members I’ve had throughout the years. And, thank you God for instilling these gifts in me.
