We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always had a love for food and the many ways it can be prepared. However, I decided to specialize in the pastry area, more so cakes, because of my own childhood. I never have had a cake nor a party, so I wanted to be able to create memories in an edible way. Not only do I create a unique centerpiece for different occasions, but for my kid client I add a toy(keepsake), so that whenever they see the toy, they’ll remember not only their party but the people that came out to celebrate their special day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Creating my brand is more than just cake for me. It holds meaning not because of the beauty of what my mind can bring to physical form but it create memories that that individual will remember years and years to come. As stated before, it the keepsakes that I add to my children cakes so that they can have a piece of their celebration with them even after the celebration is over. Though I’m conducting my business, I still add the personal feel to my cakes to let them know I care.

When you are running a business, it’s nothing easy about it. But if it’s really your God given gift then it will always be worth it. When times have been rough will growing my brand, I always remember that if God showed it to me, He’ll also see me through it.

One of the main lessons I’ve learned is, focus on what you’re doing and not what someone else is doing. Social media will have you judging how fast you’re learning, or how your craft may not be as perfect as others, or even why you don’t have all the likes and comments as someone else. You will drive yourself crazy trying to be someone but yourself. When it’s your time you’ll know, but until then keep working on what YOU feel is your weak point, not what society deem it as. Be you because no one else can do it better but you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, covid has made a lot of us hermit crabs lol, but I would say one spot would be this hidden gem called Bonterra’s. It is a farm to table restaurant that menu changes every so many days due to the food being fresh from the local sustainable farms. The food is amazing but for me in the ambience that took my spirit to another level. We have so many things like Carowinds if you like theme parks, Village Park in Kannapolis if you want to do outdoor movies, or even indoor skydiving at iFly in Concord. If you need something more chill, I suggest Carolinas Aviation Museum, the Mint Museum of Art downtown Charlotte, or the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So, I have two people that I would like to recognize, one being my cousin Annette. This woman has been in my corner since I was three years old. She helped my great grandmother raise me but also was/is a woman that I cherished for being so strong even when the odds were stacked against her. She never gave up and even in her time of need, she would always be there to help anyone she can. The kindness and patience she holds is out of this world. My next shoutout is to my best friend Alex. When I say ain’t no friend like the one I got, I mean that lol. She is such a beautiful soul and has always pushed me since seventh grade. You know you have a true friend when you can be vulnerable about the highs and lows of life and never feel judged or weak. She has helped from popups to overnight treat orders that almost took us out lmao. I would give these two ladies the world but for now I’ll give them their flowers while on this earth.
