We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Aldridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Work! I think a lot of people have a misconception when it comes to “being your own boss”, the most important part of being successful and reaching success is putting in the work that is required to get there. I would also say patience, we are in an era that loves instant gratification, thanks to technology everything these days seems so fast, but a successful brand doesn’t happen overnight, you have to have the work ethic and the patience it takes to get there. Faith without work is DEAD! So you take the leap of faith you start your business but you have to do the WORK!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own two businesses on paper right now, they both make me who I am and they both are very much MY brand.
The first is KGLOW Skincare, it’s my all natural skincare line designed for all ages and shades. What sets KGLOW apart is that I formulate and make all of my products myself and I have a wide variety of products to choose from. I’m most excited and proud that I am always introducing new products to my brand and it has been growing since day one.
My second business is a non-profit organization called Black Businesses United. It is literally what the name says, a safe space for minority business owners to gather, network, and help each other all while giving back to the community. Right now we have about 45 members we just started member enrollment. I’m most excited and proud about all of the things we have to offer to the community and business owners as an organization. We do networking mixers, pop up shops, family events, we have had a book drive and a food drive, and we are just getting started. One huge lesson I learned along the way is that you need a team to be successful when it comes to bringing a huge vision to life. (Shoutout to my team)
I would like the world to know that people who want you to win still exist, that’s why I created BBU. And I want people to know that my story is a lot more than just my businesses and my brand but we will get to that another time. As for KGLOW it will become a household brand one day and I just want ppl to know they heard it here first.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I live in Columbus, Georgia. If I had to plan a weekend here we would probably have brunch at hudsons, we could eat at several places like daiquiris and poboys, vertigo, the rising flour, the jazzy crab.. just to name a few. So fun things to do would be going downtown to the food hall or throwing axes on Broadway. There’s not much excitement here but we would make it a good time regardless
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, and my three daughters. They support anything with my name on it and I would be nowhere if it wasn’t for them. So huge thank you to my family.
