We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerra Latrice and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerra, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is by Earl Nightingale, where he advises, “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” This quote really speaks to me because I used to be the person that was so focused on hurrying up and getting to the finish line. But, I now realize there are lessons along whatever journey we are going through in life. Embrace the journey and don’t get discouraged because certain things may take too long. The time will pass anyway.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the Founder and CEO of Gifted With a Pen, where we offer author consulting, ghostwriting, and editing services. Writing has always been my gift. Gifted With a Pen was also heavily influenced by the scripture in Proverbs 18:16 which states, “A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” My LLC was also established after I noticed I was revising too many cover letters and resumes “under the table” and I decided to make everything legit. The majority of my resume clients knew I had already written a book, so a lot of them were asking if I could help with self-publishing and editing their book(s). After successfully walking a few of them through the process, I decided to stop offering resume and cover letter revisions and focus solely on consulting, ghostwriting, and editing for authors. The process was fairly easy, and word-of-mouth advertising have definitely helped me. I just did the work, served my clients the way I wanted to be served, and trusted the process. One step at a time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a close friend of mine were to visit Atlanta, we would start the day with a good hike at Sweetwater Creek, then I’d take them to Botanical Gardens, and lunch at Upbeet. After that, we would spend time shopping in Cobb County (TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Home Goods please), and have dinner/drinks at The Battery.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my 6th-grade English Composition teacher. She planted the seed in me at the tender age of 12 with a simple comment on one of my assignments. I’ll never forget reading, “Keep this writing up and one day I’ll be reading one of your books.” Thank you, Ms. Carrie Griffin for speaking life into me and recognizing my potential!
