We had the good fortune of connecting with Jermaine Sain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jermaine, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I believe that my work life balance has gotten better over time but as any business owner knows, it could be better. Once I redefined what work life balance meant for me, is when it got better. When you are starting a business that is truly your passion, it is easy to find yourself working and not really considering it as work because you love what you are doing but once I realized that even that event that I attended was still work, it helped me identify that I didn’t truly have a work life balance.
What should our readers know about your business?
When We Speak TV is an online business that focuses on entertainment and media. Particularly, we are dedicated to providing unique content for organizations, venues, and individuals.
The idea of When We Speak TV started because I was new to Atlanta and I was trying to think of a way to meet new people in the city, so I started going to concerts, plays, festivals, etc. and request interviews with the musical artists for my YouTube channel. Later, I started singing in a musical group and I noticed that when we would perform, we never had footage of our performance, which helped me realize that many artists probably have that same dilemma. That’s what inspired the expansion from interviews to performance recording and editing.
Along this journey, one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that you have to be open to evolution. When we first began, I had one vision of When We Speak TV but since the start it has evolved or expanded into a business greater than I ever imagined.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting….we would definitely have to have breakfast at Nana’s Chicken and Waffles in Conyers!!! I absolutely love that place and the owner, Chef Kelli Ferrell.. Then, if the friend is coming during the summer, we would have to head out to Norcross, GA, for a great jazz summer series called Jazz In The Alley. However, if it’s not a summer visit, I would be searching for a concert by some of my artist friends like Russell Gunn, Joe Alterman, Gareth Asher, Chandra Currelley, Julie Dexter, YemiConga , or Shameia Crawford. Really there are so many artists that I could mention!
Some more places we would definitely check out:
Little Five Points
The Aquarium
World of Coke
National Center for Civil and Human Rights
Fernbank
King Center and Home
CNN center
Venues for more music!
Eddie’s Attic
St James Live
I may not be able to list all the spots we would hit up but believe me, it would be a full itinerary!!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are truly many people that have played a huge role in my success but more specifically I could not be the person I am without the support of my right hand, Chester Lawrence, who has been with me since the beginning.
