Meet Jermaine Kenney: Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jermaine Kenney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jermaine, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is a tricky game in life but it’s a game that should always be played because you’ll never know where life will take you if you don’t take some risks. I feel like a lot of people are scared of failure & are so prone to just move on to the next thing. I mean that’s ok for most, but as far as someone trying to find themselves in this world & do whatever makes them happy you gotta take the risks that come on the path you take. It’s ok to fail because it takes failure to learn & grow. Me being a photographer comes with some risks. I invest a lot of money into my craft just to make a name for myself in my city, while also raising 2 kids that would possibly one day continue my legacy when I’m gone. There’s a lot of things I’m still learning in this life, I’m only 25 & I want to know more .. I want to be more & I feel like If I didnt take a leap of faith with the path I’m taking I’d regret not doing it & it would all just turn into a whole bunch of “ what if’s “.
So with that being said, to everyone that’s reading this. Don’t be afraid to take that leap of faith. Things happen in life it’s your choice to learn & grow from it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art comes from my emotions & just who I feel like I am. I feel like my type of photography is very different from the rest like a vintage urban grunge look. Most work I see be from artist that shoot in studios & Im more of an outdoors type of photographer because I thrive in natural light. I started photography back in high school my 11th grade year attending Perry Traditional Academy. Me & a group of friends were talking in class & the announcements came on, they were saying how there was a photography club starting & if anybody wanted to attend to go to the 1st floor after school, so at that point I’m asking my friend if he wants to do it so we can get out of class & he’s like yeah so we did it lol & now I travel & take pictures for a dance company.
I never really thought that this would be what I would be doing now but I just fell in love with it & never stopped since. It definitely wasn’t easy for me nothing in this life is easy but it took more of a mental toll than anything. There were times I’d question if this is what I really want to do with my life or should I just work a normal 9-5 & settle. There’s nothing wrong with it but I just can’t see myself doing that for the rest of my life, that’s not what I was put on this earth for. I started to get into meditation & learning more on how to control energy, Being in the present of things & being thankful of where I am now gave me the peace I needed to keep pushing. I want the world to know that Im ready.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to stylingbychi. She has been a major support er/motivator over the past couple of years. It’s crazy because we live in the same area & never met a day in our lives. Which is why I appreciate the love & support she has & continues to show me !
