We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Walker Laura Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer Walker, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Laura and I were two pediatric nurses who took call for a busy pediatric practice during the daytime hours, as well as nights and weekends. We really never intended to become entrepreneurs or create a business. We sought to solve a problem. And the glaring problem was that parents had the same concerns and questions over and over again, and the information that they needed either was not being provided or it was not being provided in a way that resonated with them successfully. So we decided to begin going into the homes of these new families to help address the most common questions which were fussy babies and feeding and sleeping questions, especially in the first one to two years of life. What transpired surprised us beyond our wildest dreams as the information that we put together for these new families help to give them great confidence and helped their babies to begin sleeping through the night very regularly. What started as just an additional way to help serve the patients in our practice in Atlanta began to be spread to cousins and friends, not only outside of Atlanta, but in different states and eventually in different countries. The overwhelming response from parents was how much they appreciated the simplicity and the confidence that they received from having the information that we provided: and it was that point that we met for coffee and determined that we would do everything we could to help exhausted parents find their way and make these resources more widely available, even in the midst of taking call 80 and 90 hours a week and raising our own eight children. We knew that we could help and we set out to do so and it has been quite a roller coaster of keeping up with the digital landscape as it has transformed over the past 20 years, but what we do today is the same thing that we did when we created this business, which is to serve the people who are brought into our path to the best of our ability.

What should our readers know about your business?
The most important factor behind our success is our dedication to our primary mission. Anytime we are faced with new decisions or opportunities, it is always filtered through what we feel would be best for parents and babies. We are always trying to serve the people that are brought into our path to the best of our ability, and keeping that at the forefront has been transformational. At the beginning of every business meeting, we always read a testimonial so that we are always reminded of the impact of what all of the little decisions we make in a workday, really mean. And every email that we get we answer with MOC “M” means that this parent MATTERS and they feel seen. “O” means that they are offered OPTIONS on how to manage whatever challenge they have communicated to us. And “C” means that we instill CONFIDENCE in them to be able to make a decision. And it is our goal to provide those three things in every interaction that we have.

Being able to put healthy sleep habits in place is an essential part of a satisfying parenting experience. It helps parents to be able to do the enormous number of things that are required in modern life, and to be able to enjoy this beautiful gift of parenting. It also helps parents and caregivers to be able to do things like safely operate a vehicle and be a contributor at work without being completely exhausted. We often talk about the importance of sleep for adults, but it is equally as important for babies and for families. We did not intend to become a sleep method. It is what we are most well known for and the simple way that we have mapped out the normal rhythms and typical days of infants and toddlers has resonated around the world. but I think the thing that Laura and I really enjoy the most is the confidence that is instilled in these families and the beautiful way they express that anytime we meet someone at a event and they tell us about their experience that word comes up over and over again, and if we did that in the world, if we were able to make parents more confident in the decisions that they’re making (now that they have access to more information than ever before in history) then we have done something good and we are very proud of that.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s no way to point to just one. Moms on Call was built by a whole community, and our story is woven together by countless hands and hearts.

From the incredible doctors and nurses we worked alongside in those early years, to our own families who trusted us, encouraged us, and let us learn in real time, each one played a vital role. And most of all, every single family who invited us into their home or shared their experience… you are the reason this work matters. Your stories shaped our mission, refined our approach, and kept us going.

And our small but mighty team of five who work tirelessly behind the scenes, pouring their hearts into every detail to make sure families feel supported, seen, and equipped.

It truly took all of us. Moms On Call exists because people were willing to pour out wisdom, offer support, and walk this journey with us. We’re grateful for every voice, every moment, and every person who believed in us and Moms on Call .
