We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, how does your business help the community?
The Greene Clothe Collective prioritizes making safe, eco-friendly luxurious spaces and experiences for everyone. As a mixed group of Black feminists who steward the land, each Greene Clothe member has a unique way in which they connect to the world, and our goal is just to share that with as many Black people in the global south as possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Greene Clothe is the result of world-building. My friends and I believe in creating the present that we want to see, no matter the resistance we are met with. It would be bold of me to say that this sets us apart from anyone and anything else when in history we can see very similar ways that people were imagining better futures through the land.

Anything worth working for is going to have challenges. I started Greene Clothe Fresh out of college when I moved back to Atlanta. I had no money and very little of an actual idea for what I imagined Greene Clothe to be. After connecting with Eva, and building and working alongside the urban agriculture community, I noticed more of an ease with Greene Clothe, as I like to say, I knew everyone that I needed to know to accomplish anything. Worldbuilding is not possible without community, and community can provide you with so many resources to make those imagined realities come true. From Greene Clothe to the world, come vibe with us and create a little Black magic <3

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to shout out to my newfound Atlanta community. Without them, Greene Clothe would be very difficult to pull off. The support, whether it’s through words, gigs, or grant/job opportunities, all of it is so very appreciated and was necessary for where Greene Clothe is today.
